TalkCDL sat down did the Kyle Rich Interview - 19 Yr. Old trucker! We talked about how the laws prevent a 19 year old from doing the same things a 21 year can do with their Class A CDL. A Truck driver under 21 is not allowed to cross a state line. These young drivers are what is considered intrastate only, meaning they have to drive with in the state they are domiciled in. So now here is what it comes down to. A trucker under the age of 21 is allowed to drive the same hours as an "Over-the-road" trucker but they are not allowed to cross the state line. So that means, the 19 year old driver can run across say Pennsylvania for over 400 miles. But if his delivery is one mile past the state line in New Jersey, he must drop it on the Pennsylvania side and let someone else make the delivery. Thats right, he can be trusted to drive all day long performing the duties of a Class A CDL holder but not go one foot into another state. Crazy right?
