Parent's are often left reeling at their child's chosen behavior, thinking what on earth just happened? And why? Why on earth did my child do that? Using the iceberg analogy for decoding behavior can be a useful tool for parents and one which I recommend. In other words, get curious as to what might be going on beneath the surface. Your child might be whining, shouting, crying, or being aggressive. These are the surface behaviors, the ones you see, but you have to look beyond this to what might be going on beneath the surface because it is this that usually drives the behavior. Beneath every behavior is an unmet need and it is up to us to be the Chief Inspector of Behavior in order to work out what it might be! Tune in...
