This in most cases is a recruiting tool that in most cases never is seen. According to most drivers interviewed, they put in for detention pay and never see it. If they do see it, they have to beg for it and most will tell you that its not worth the argument. Detention as we mentioned starts when a driver has made his appointment time and has sat either unloaded or loaded waiting for the opposite to happen. The one making out like a bandit in this situation in the shipper or receiver. Knowing the trucking company needs their freight often times they don't pay the carrier their detention time and therefore the tuck driver ends up sitting for free unrested while he waits to be unloaded or loaded.
