The Watch D.O.G.S. (Dads of Great Students) Program is the largest school based father engagement program in the nation with over 4000 schools participating. Today's WatchDOGS Radio Program: Privilege vs Punishment. Greg Strong will discuss the difference between privilege and punishment in the educational environment. There are two ways we have to motivate…punishment (authority-figure controlled) or privilege (peer-group supported). RF only deals in the privilege domain. RULES ARE FOR PRIVILEGING, NOT PUNISHING, in school and classroom environments. When students are privileged for obeying rules, they are looking forward to a positive consequence. On the other hand, when rules are associated with a punishment, fear of a negative consequence is what motivates behavior, or what we think motivates behavior. Students overwhelmingly (100%) have chosen  privilege as their motivation when given a choice. This study was conducted in 400 classes which represents over 800 peer groups that were given a choice.
