On occasion of the Eighth day of the ascending (waxing phase) of the moon, listen to chanting of Durga Suktam and Devi Suktam.    This is considered to be a very good day for accessing the energy of the goddesses : Durga, Pratyangira and Parahi.  In the bhardapad month, that is. During the time of Ganapati Festival, this is the day for celebration of Gauri - as a part of the "Gauri-Ganapati" festival in Maharashtra.   Goddess Durga is known as Mahishasur Mardini - the destroyer of evil forces and the slayer of the demon Mahishasura.  Goddess Pratangira protects from evil forces and bad influences, particularly witchcraft and occultism.  Goddess Varahi is a Devi with the head of a boar.
