In this installment, Aaron Major joins us to discuss his essay, "Ideas without Power," from Catalyst. We discuss the "ideational" model of conceptualizing the neoliberal turn, which places the role of ideas over material forces. We then offer some alternative ways of studying the turn to neoliberalism as a set of material constraints and contradictions of postwar capitalism. This goes beyond dusty academic debates -- if socialists want to know how to go beyond neoliberalism, we must have a grounded understanding of how we got here.
