Heavy Rainfall to Develop Along the Gulf Coast; Excessive Heat Lingers in the Southwest U.S. -  Excessive heat will continue today across parts of the Southwest; the persistent hot and dry weather will also support critical fire danger over the Great Basin. Elsewhere, severe thunderstorms are possible today over the Mississippi Valley.
