"The prayer of a righteous person is powerful and effective." Who does prayer work for? What is it effective at doing or changing? Matthew 5:20, Philippians 3:7-9 It's not "You're good as long as you get your act together." Prayer changes you. John 16:24, Matthew 18 Prayer teaches us dependence. Self-sufficiency is the greatest enemy of our prayer life. God has hard-wired us to be changed by prayer. Sometimes, prayer changes God's mind. Exodus 32:14, Jonah 3:10, Isaiah 38:1 God doesn't change, but God does change His mind.
