God wants all people to be saved and come to a knowledge of the truth. (1 Timothy 2:4) Jonah wasn't afraid of what the Ninevites would do to him, He was afraid of what God would do for the Ninevites. v.2 "I knew that you are a gracious and compassionate God, slow to anger and abounding in love, a God who relents from sending calamity." Jonah was surrendered to the Laws of God. Jonah had never surrendered to the purposes of God. If you've never surrendered to the purposes of God, you set yourself up to become judgmental. We don't change in order to be loved, we change because we've been loved. As a follower of Jesus, I am surrendered to my Heavenly Father and that means His purpose becomes my purpose.
