Tom Schulman is a screenwriter from Los Angeles. He is best known for writing the screenplays for classic films such as Dead Poets Society, Honey, I Shrunk the Kids, and What About Bob?. His screenplay for Dead Poets Society won the Academy Award for Best Original Screenplay in 1989, and was his first movie script to reach the big screen. This script is semi-autobiographical, based on his experiences in the classroom of Sam Pickering, one of his teachers at a prep school in Nashville, Tennessee.
