Residents moving into the inner city of Christchurch are silencing live music venues.As more residential developments go up the council is receiving more complaints in mixed-used zones.Developer Mike Percasky told Chris Lynch complaints over noise can lead to gigs being shut down and thousands of dollars having to be handed back to patrons.He says housing developments should be fit for purpose and mitigate noisePercasky says it will be tragic if these venues have to move out to industrial areas.The council has received a string of complaints over noise at popular night spot The Slate Room, which is close to new apartmentsThe Slate Room has been on Lichfield Street for three years - but the complaints only started when apartments went up across the road.Owner Rene Bell says despite being there first they've been forced to stop live music.He told Chris Lynch you don't move to the central city to get away from it all.Listen to the full interviews with Mike and Rene above.
