New Writing North

In 1951 pitman-turned-novelist Sid Chaplin was commissioned to write The Lakes to Tyneside, one of 13 guides to the UK’s regions to mark the Festival of Britain. In 2014, Michael Chaplin was commissioned by Durham Book Festival to follow in his father’s footsteps, undertaking seven contrasting walks, starting on Holy Island and finishing in Durham.
