Hi there, I’m Jack and I’m Gintarė and welcome back to Lithuanian Out Loud where we offer the world the Lithuanian language. According to the BBC article, “Lithuanian Jews Revive Yiddish,” before World War II there were over 250,000 Jews in Lithuania. Because of the Nazi Holocaust there are only about 5,000 Jews in the country today and only a few can speak Yiddish. Members of the Lithuanian Jewish community are working hard to revive the language and one of the few places you can still hear Yiddish spoken in public is the Vilnius Choral Synagogue.
