A Special Yule tide episode, full of stories and recipes for the holiday.The story of how Yule got its name, is called The First Song, and is a traditional story from Northern Europe. I've been telling this story to my children for many years, and have changed and added to it over time, as we do with all folk tales. The poem Welcome Yule is by Susan Cooper. A Visit to Mother Hulda was a story I originally found many years ago in Circle Round by Starhawk, Diane Baker and Anne Hill as "A Visit to Mother Winter." Over the years, I have changed and adapted the story to fit with our family practices and beliefs. The version told here is my own.
