(N Engl J Med 2011; 365:843-8), discussing a case of pancreatitis in pregnancy caused by hyperparathyroidism.While hyperparathyroidism is rare, the testing and diagnostics of variations in calcium levels and the issues and roles of calcium during pregnancy and its role in fetal skeletal mineralization are discussed.
