We’re not teachers, but we do the best we can. Don’t we dear? We do. We do… Dangus is the Lithuanian word for the sky or heaven. Dievas is the word for a god. According to the article, “Lithuanian Mythology” written by Gintaras Beresnevičius of the Lithuanian Institute of Culture and Arts, the Lithuanian God of the sky was Dangaus Dievas. Long ago Dangaus Dievas gave Perkūnas his powers of thunder and lightning and afterwards Dangaus Dievas fades into the background and becomes an inactive deity. Perkūnas is pictured as a middle-aged man. He has a large axe and arrows. Perkūnas rides on a two-wheeled chariot pulled by a team of goats, similar to the Norwegian God Thor.
