The Israelites in the Old Testament experienced God’s glory in the tangible earthly manifestation of a cloud, often referred to as the “shekinah glory” of God. The cloud of God guided, and guarded God’s people, and eventually would rest upon the mercy seat, the lid, of the Ark of the Covenant. The New Testament now teaches that God’s Spirit doesn’t exist in a temple made by human hands, but in Jesus Christ, by the Holy Spirit residing in the hearts of men.
