By 1979 AC/DC had released a handful of studio albums, toured endlessly and had gained a solid following, especially in Australia, where brothers Malcolm and Angus Young started the band back in 1973. But they still hadn’t achieved the commercial breakthrough they were looking for. That would finally happen with the release of their album 'Highway to Hell'. It was their first LP to break the US Top 100, eventually hitting #17. The album’s title track was a big reason for the album’s success as it went to #47 on Billboard’s Pop Singles Chart. With the Young brothers in their song-writing prime and rock radio thirsting for more AC/DC, the band was primed for even bigger success with their follow-up album. But on February 19th, 1980 just days ahead of their return to the studio, the band’s lead singer Bon Scott was found dead.
