  • Terry Callier Special

    04/11/2012 Duração: 01h03min

Soul/Jazz Folk singer and guitarist Terry Callier, passed away last week (October 27, 2012) aged 67 after suffering from throat cancer. Terry released a string of enduring and influential albums between the early 60's and the late 80's and enjoyed a creative rebirth during the late 90’s in the UK when his Folk, Soulful music was revived by the acid-jazz movement, and great new albums via Talkin Loud Records and Mr Bongos. Terry's more modern collaborators included Beth Orton, Massive Attack, 4hero, Incognito, Paul Weller and Nujabes. It wasn't just the distinct voice and guitar playing that made Terry so special in his early era but his sometimes radical out-there songwriting skills were picked up by the likes of The Dells, Jerry Butler, Dee Sharp Gamble and The Rotary Connection. Credit also goes to Terry for Spotting Minnie Riperton as she worked as a receptionist at Chess Cadet Records (so the story goes). Some of my personal favorites from Terry is his work with arrangers Charles Stepney and Richard Evans

Marc Mac presents 60 minutes of Motown Dusty Grooves “mixtape style”. All "green light Technics" strictly vinyl. Part One. Without doubt Motown has always been one of my fave labels and truth is you don't have to dig to deep to find Motown gems as it was such a popular label. In more recent times loads of previously unreleased Motown tracks have surfaced solidifying my admiration for the Motown groove. Shout also has to go to the many Hip hop producers that helped in keeping the groove alive through sampling. check it out. • In The Library - Marc Mac

    01/01/2012 Duração: 58min

Ok Chill... kicking off 2012 with a trip to the library. A little mix dedicated to the many great library labels, musicians and composers; Alan Hawkshaw, Keith Mansfield, Alan Parker, Sammy Burdson, De Wolfe, KPM, Sylvester, Conroy Music to name a few. There's 1000's of good lib records worldwide but I would probably have to say that my faves came from London in the 60's & 70's and I think it has a lot to do with the cool production studios in the UK during that time. Funny, as a kid watching UK tv in the 70's & 80's funky grooves always popped on programs even the news & sports programs, I'm pretty sure the musicians would have listened to whatever was cool in the US at the time (Stevie, Herbie and Quincy Jones) then vibed off the influence. Of course library music has become a big and important part of Hip-hop and Beatmaking with producers and DJ's parting with plenty cash and traveling far and wide for a dope track, drum break or sample buried in tons of cheesy wackness. anyway hope you dig. PEACE. Marc Ma
