Comicbuzz Interview: Grainne Humphreys

Our very own Paula Wiseman attended Dublin Comic-Con on Saturday 11th this year. She got a chance to interview some of the guests attending the event; she caught up with the actors Kevin McNally, Daniel Moncada and Luis Moncada. Kevin McNally is an English actor and writer. He is known for portraying Joshamee Gibbs in the Pirates of the Caribbean film series. Daniel and Luis Moncada are Honduran-American actors and brothers known for their role as "The Cousins" Leonel and Marco Salamanca on the AMC crime drama series Breaking Bad (2010) and its spin-off Better Call Saul (2016; 2018–present).

Our very own Paula Wiseman is still covering what’s going on at Diff. This time she got a chance to interview the director and cast members of Wolf. Natalie Biancheri - Director George Mackay - Jacob Fionn O'Shea - Rufus Lola Petticrew - Judith Believing he's a wolf trapped in a man's body, Jacob eats, sleeps and lives like one -- much to the shock of his family. When he's sent to a clinic, Jacob and his animal-bound peers are forced to undergo increasingly extreme forms of curative therapies. Hot off the red carpet from DIFF, our very own Paula Wiseman got a chance to interview the writer, producer, director and cast members of The Feast. A wealthy family has a dinner party at its home in the Welsh mountains, hosting a local businessman and farmer who hope to broker a business deal. A mysterious young woman arrives to be the family's waitress, and things begin to unravel. Hot off the red carpet from DIFF, our very own Paula Wiseman got a chance to interview the producers and directors of Young Plato, a documentary set in post-conflict Belfast. An observational documentary set in post-conflict Belfast’s Ardoyne,  where a marginalized, working-class community has for generations been plagued by poverty, drugs and guns. This film charts the dream of  Headmaster Kevin McArevey and his dedicated visionary team, illustrating how critical thinking and pastoral care can empower and encourage children to see beyond the boundaries and limitations of their own community. We see how philosophy can encourage them to question the mythologies of war and of violence, and challenge the narratives of their community. Paula Wiseman chatted with LA based Irish actor, Glenn Keogh about some  of his upcoming movie and TV projects, and also about some of his amazing past work, including roles in 'Scorpion', 'Marvel's Agents of  S.H.I.E.L.D.' and 'Transformers - Age of Extinction'.

Our very own Paula Wiseman interviews George MacKay at the True History of the Kelly Gang red carpet event at the Virgin Media Dublin International Film Festival. Based on Peter Carey’s Booker Prize winning novel, Justin Kurzel’s TRUE HISTORY OF THE KELLY GANG shatters the mythology surrounding Ned Kelly to reveal the essence behind the life of the notorious icon. Our very own Vixen Ninetails got a chance to interview Akidearest and Joey The Anime Man at J-Con 2019. Joey The Anime Man and Akidearest are a pair of YouTubers that are based in Japan, who are amongst the biggest Otaku channels on YouTube. Joey is a Japanese/Austrailian. Joey is known for his monthly favorites videos of the latest anime and manga he follows in Japan, which he critiques and gives his viewers some recommendations on what they should keep an eye out for. He is a massive otaku, who is fluent in Japanese, has a great sense of humor and comedic charm, who also produces some fun and bizarre videos on perhaps some of the most obscure services you can find in Japan: like renting a Japanese mom for a day.

Paula got a chance to have a quick chat with Pat Shortt, at the DIFF screening of 'Dark Lies the Island' on Weds 27th February 2019 in Cineworld. Written by Irish author Kevin Barry and based around characters he  created for his own short story collection, Ian Fitzgibbon’s (Death of a Superhero) pitch-black comedy centres on a small Irish town over a week-long period. If you’re going get involved with men in a small  Irish  town, they might as well be the Mannions - and Sara is involved up to  her neck. The Mannions are a feuding family in the town of Dromord who  are all set at each other. Sara is married to Daddy Mannion but holding a  candle for her first love, his son Doggy. When she also  gets involved  with his brother, trouble looms. An impressive Irish cast  including  Peter Coonan, Charlie Murphy, Pat Shortt and Moe Dunford  flesh out this  unique, dark, comedy which offers on-the-nose  observations about Irish life.

Paula got a chance to sit down and talk with the writer and director of Scarborough, Barnaby Southcombe. Scarborough, A tale of forbidden love based on the acclaimed Royal Court theatre play by Fiona Evans. Set over three days in the British seaside town of Scarborough, two couples seek an escape from the constraints of real life. In a faded hotel, amongst the peeling wallpaper and away from the prying eyes of their hometown, they laugh, quarrel, make love and enjoy their anonymity.  The hotel rooms are their safe haven but also their self-imposed prison as they don’t dare go out. After all, at barely 16 years old, two of them are still at school.... and the other two, their teachers.  Part love story and probing social commentary, Scarborough has a gripping narrative that uses it's structure to explore the boundaries of responsibility and consent.

Our very own Paula Wiseman got a chance to have a quick chat with Stephen Merchant. Paula caught up with Stephen at the DIFF screening of his new movie, 'Fighting With My Family' on Weds 27th February 2019. Based on a true story, Fighting With My Family follows reformed gangster Ricky, wife Julia, daughter Paige and son Zak as they make a living wrestling together in tiny venues. When Paige and Zak get the opportunity to try out for WWE, the family grabs a once-in-a-lifetime chance to turn their wildest dreams into a dazzling future. However, brother and sister quickly discover that to become superstars, both their talent and their relationship will be put to the test. Fighting With My Family is a heartwarming and smart comedy that proves everything is worth fighting for when it comes to family.
