Overenthusiastic Underprepared

How many friendships were ended over the Myspace top eight? This week Annemarie looks at the rise of social media in the early aughts. Meanwhile, we may not be able to imagine the food scene without bacon or Food Network, but Alyssa looks back at how the 2000s were the formative years for these and other food trends.

In a totally normal sounding event, Alyssa gets into a shower-sized room to sweat under some infrared lights while dreaming of that one possibly hot Australian doctor who got away. Annemarie has a run in with a witch and looks at some Post-It Note art – two wildly different things that she manages to weave into one story.

This week Alyssa sits down with her coworker and friend Emma. She's sharing a few dating stories, an embarrassing story involving her parents and a nightmare, and the time she got to perform with a show with a singer she liked thanks to a few chance encounters.

Alyssa might be dying in this week’s episode, but that doesn’t stop her from telling us about her experience using ClassPass. Annemarie attends a pasta cooking class (is this the new bread episode?) and is now basically a chef.  Don’t judge the hosts, 2020 has already been 6 months long.

It's our first episode where we take a look a random topic! Annemarie delves into the history of workplace sitcoms and wonders how they'll evolve. Yes, she does talk about THE OFFICE. Meanwhile, Alyssa took this opportunity to research white collar crime, (Honestly both of our hosts are completely predictable.)

Alyssa goes to the theater to see Cats – a spectacle so trippy, confusing, and downright awful that she declares it a must see.  You’ll probably walk out of the theater wondering about normal cat anatomy and feeling vaguely threatened by Dame Judi Dench. In a very off-brand move, Annemarie sees former Jackass star, Steve-O, do stand-up comedy where he talks about doing the most ridiculous stunts. There’s a lot of poop involved… so if that’s not your thing, know that it most definitely is also not her thing.

We're making plans this week. There are some exciting changes coming to Overenthusiastic Underprepared, and we can't wait. We're also setting some personal intentions for 2020 and sending some positive energy into the world.

The hosts sit down in Alyssa’s childhood bedroom with their long-time good friend, Ana, to talk about a few of Ana’s first times. The conversation quickly derails as they pass one microphone back and forth between all three of them, and they end up covering some pretty weird topics.  Alyssa and Annemarie are sorry for what you’re about to hear – but in a much more real sense, they aren’t sorry at all.

You can have a little decade-in-review content, as a treat. Alyssa and Annemarie have ten completely unrelated questions they're answering to reminisce about the last ten years. Memes, obsessions, funny memories of each other, and much more.

After a bit of time away from recording, Alyssa and Annemarie are back and better than ever (read: so exhausted from life that they’re one bad joke away from a mental breakdown)! Alyssa attends a Steelers football game with her family and consequently considers becoming the next big TikTok star – a path she had not considered before. Annemarie gets crafty while making a candle and tells facts about… sperm whales? We aren’t sure who let these hosts have a podcast, but here we are.

Annemarie accidentally attends her first EDM concert this week, featuring flaming drumsticks and unexplained dirtbikes. Alyssa goes to an advanced screening of the tv show DICKINSON and gets a taste of the VIP treatment, which she really recommends if any other companies want to treat her like a VIP.

This week’s episode is a special one! Annemarie met up with two of her friends to listen to them tell a story of one of their First Times – their first time jumping out of a plane thousands of feet in the air, to be exact. You know, just your casual, everyday sort of activity. They’re on this podcast, so I guess you could say they lived to tell the tale.

After a week in Alabama, Alyssa shares the mistakes she made on vacation. (She tried to go on a date for the podcast, and let's just say it didn't go to plan.) Fresh off jury duty, Annemarie talks about Pod-ception, when she, a podcaster, went to a podcast live show to talk about on this podcast. Trippy, we know.

The hosts are comin’ at you this week with a special Halloween episode in celebration of Annemarie’s favorite holiday. Annemarie visits the City Market Catacombs in Indianapolis and tells herself that it is not haunted (but it’s probably haunted). Alyssa finds herself in the dark of night, in a field, in rural Massachusetts looking at a totally normal spectacle: Ponyhenge.

Alyssa gets dressed up for cocktails where the "real adults" go for drinks (listen after three weeks of birthdays, she's pretty poor and had to work with what she had. Let's give her a break). Annemarie goes to Dinosaur World. But even though dinosaurs are awesome, this theme park might not be.

Alyssa rings in her 26th birthday with a hangover (cured by a magical breakfast sandwich) and a fun, surprise-filled day planned by her amazing friends. Annemarie considers buying a house and attends a super informative, ultra interesting, definitely-worth-talking-about crash course on it.

Alyssa will forever be haunted by the mystery of a wrong number text this weekend. She'll also be haunted by some of the weird food she ate at a sustainability food festival. Meanwhile, Annemarie has some fun in the sun, featuring poisonous tequila and quite a bit of vomiting.

This week, Annemarie attends a Pet Festival with her dog, Hagrid, and considers traveling the world to become a Dachshund race journalist. To be continued whether or not she makes this major career change.  Alyssa opens up to a complete stranger when she attends a Meetup Group in Boston, proving once again that forcing herself to try new activities can be really rewarding.

This week, Annemarie participates in perhaps the most random activity yet: a Rock Paper Scissors Tournament. Going against her better judgment, Alyssa skips a party with her friends and goes on a second date to some pond. The night quickly takes an awkward turn, leaving Alyssa no choice but to use the classic Phone a Friend move and pretend her dog was deathly ill. Can we blame her?

This week, Alyssa is on a boat, cruising down a river. Well, on a kayak. And she's paddling. And we aren't sure whether it was actually a river. But close enough. Annemarie recaps her trip to Italy with a new segment called "The Top Six Things That I Thought Were Worth Sharing Slash What I Could Remember While Doing This Outline About Traveling to the Specific Places That I Went to in Italy."
