  • Who is the father of Gospel music God or the devil pt 3

    24/05/2015 Duração: 15min

Rosetta Tharpe's appearance in John Hammond's "Spirituals to Swing" concert at Carnegie Hall on December 23, 1938, which both shocked and awed the crowd, along with subsequent appearances with jazz artist Cab Calloway at Harlem's Cotton Club gained her even more fame, along with notoriety. These performance were controversial, as well as revolutionary, in several respects. Performing gospel music in front of secular, 'nightclub' audiences and alongside blues, jazz musicians and dancers was highly unusual, and within conservative religious circles the mere fact of a woman performing guitar music, particularly in those settings, was frowned upon. For these reasons, Tharpe was often falling out of favour with segments within the gospel community.[17][18] Other late 1930's hits, such as her self-penned "This Train" and "Rock Me", which combined gospel themes with bouncy up-tempo arrangements, continued to become hits among audiences with little previous exposure to gospel music.

THE BIRTH OF GOSPEL His first gospel song, "If You See my Savior Tell Him That You Saw Me" was published in 1932 Less than a year later, however, Dorsey was back in the secular blues business full-time. His "gospel music" met so much resistance from pastors who considered it "devil's music," that he found it easier to play the blues straight.

  • Who is the father of Gospel music God or the devil

    23/05/2015 Duração: 14min

Thomas Andrew Dorsey (July 1, 1899 – January 23, 1993) 93 years He was known as "the father of black gospel music" and was at one time so closely associated with the field that songs written in the new style were sometimes known as "dorseys."[2] Earlier in his life he was a leading blues pianist known as Georgia Tom. As formulated by Dorsey, gospel music combines Christian praise with the rhythms of jazz and the blues. His conception also deviates from what had been, to that time, standard hymnal practice by referring explicitly to the self, and the self's relation to faith and God, rather than the individual subsumed into the group via belief.

It is actually the Lord himself that is deceiving them. • Taking Christian rap to the clubs 4

    29/04/2015 Duração: 16min

Taking Christian Rap to the Clubs: The Contradiction In our last episode, I left off talking about compassion as a motivating factor behind some controversial actions. However is compassion the only motivator and is it a justification for every form of evangelism? In this episode I will explore another motivating factor behind “taking Christian rap to the clubs”: Dominion Theology. I’ll explore how a skewed understanding of “dominion” determines why artist like LeCrae, Trip Lee, Tedashii, Sho Baraka take some of the actions that they do. How is it that LeCrae can say things like “I can walk in both worlds”? Or how can some 116 rappers be on stage with ungodly people and still feel justified? I believe they have been deceived by Dominion Theology which contradicts Scripture and therefore leads to contradictory actions. I will discuss the contradictions of this theology and the resulting contradictory behavior in this episode.

  • Taking Christian rap to the clubs 3

    28/04/2015 Duração: 20min

Taking Christian Rap to the Clubs: The Compassion This third episode in the series Taking Christian Rap to the Clubs is the conclusion of my interview with Rachelle Starr, founder of Scarlet Hope. In this second half of our interview, I asked Rachelle to address what safeguards she has put in place to avoid harm and temptation in such a risky ministry, as well as other critiques of her ministry. She tells a bit more about the church community supporting her ministry and the compassion for these women that compels her to reach out to them through Scarlet Hope. It was evident that she is focused on the Great Commission and moved with compassion. So, if compassion is motivating us, does that validate all of our approaches to evangelism? Stay tuned to part four of the series for the answer to that question.

  • Taking Christian rap to the clubs 2

    28/04/2015 Duração: 18min

Taking Christian Rap to the Clubs: The Clarification In the previous episode, I discussed Scarlet Hope founder Rachelle Starr who took LeCrae’s CD Rebel to a strip club as a part of her ministry. I concluded that yes, her ministry is certainly controversial, but it can’t be discounted just because of the controversy. God’s prophets also were called to some pretty controversial actions. So does that mean we should all go to the strip clubs to evangelize? Certainly not! In this episode, I bring some clarifications that the actions of the prophets were unique. Mrs. Starr and the ministry of Scarlet Hope is unique. But you don’t take my word for it; I’ve interviewed Rachelle for this episode. Check out this episode to hear part one of our interview.

  • Taking Christian rap to the clubs 1

    28/04/2015 Duração: 17min

Taking Christian Rap to the Clubs: The Controversy After reading an article about Rachelle Starr who took LeCrae’s CD Rebel into the Louisville strip clubs as part of her ministry Scarlet Hope, I was inspired to talk about the variety of methods Christians are using to try and reach the lost. At first, I was skeptical to say the least. Yet, as I began to research more about Scarlet Hope, beyond the LeCrae instance, I found there was a lot more to the story. So this episode examines the controversy of her approach as well as instances in Scripture where God instructs His prophets to take some seemingly controversial and strange actions as a part of their ministry to Israel. Take a listen and you may decide that we can’t draw conclusions based on controversy.

  • Kanye West who thinks he s God created his own bible 3

    15/04/2015 Duração: 15min

This last episode is part three of Kanye West’s Pride, Precepts and Pranks. This series was prompted by the latest in West’s outlandish hijinks: creating his own bible. Certainly, this last prank is the height of some of the strange things this famed secular music producer has done, but it is not the beginning. Kanye West has a long history of drawing attention to himself, and not usually positive attention. While they may all seem off the cuff, West’s pranks all have a common factor. This last episode I’ll talk about what that is and where they will lead if he continues. If you’ve missed, the previous episodes, be sure to check them out

  • Kanye West who thinks he s God created his own bible 2

    14/04/2015 Duração: 15min

This podcast is part two of three in the series on Kanye West’s Pride, Precepts and Pranks. In today’s episode I’ll be discussing West’s precepts, meaning his teachings and beliefs. Creating your own bible and inserting your name where God’s out to be, doesn’t just happen in a vacuum. Yes, such actions are the result of tremendous self-aggrandizement, as I discussed in episode one, but where does such pride come from? Today I’ll uncover West’s belief system that brings about the level of arrogance that he displays. I’ll take about West’s “little gods” theory versus the truth about mankind as revealed in the Scriptures.

  • Kanye West who thinks he s God created his own bible

    13/04/2015 Duração: 12min

Recently, Kanye West created his own bible. Any place that God is mentioned in traditional translations, West inserted his own name. Can we as Christians just brush off such actions as outlandish hijinks for media attention? Or is there more to West’s actions than Hollywood hype? In the next three episodes, I’ll discuss the mindset behind such hubris. In a series called: His Pride, His Precepts, and His Pranks, I’ll break down what makes Kanye West think he can insert his name where God’s name ought to be. In this first episode I’ll discuss Kanye West’s pride and also elaborate on the father of pride: Satan. Be sure to tune in to the next two installments as I will discuss the ungodly precepts and bizarre pranks that also characterize this secular music producer.
