This afternoon in Cleveland, the Washington Nationals' co-ace tossed seven scoreless vs the Indians in the Washington Nationals' 4-1 win. Trea Turner (3 for 4) and Daniel Murphy powered the offense as the Nationals improved to 59-42 and earned a split of the two-game set.     Washington's Nationals took a 6-4 lead into the eighth, but Shawn Kelley gave up back-to-back home runs and in the top of the ninth, Jonathan Papelbon saw a one-out walk come around to score as the San Diego Padres took the series finale, 10-6. It was the Padres' first series win over the Nationals since May 2011 and it left the Nationals 58-41 overall on the year as they head out on the road for a two-game set with the Cleveland Indians.

    Reynaldo Lopez managed to strike out nine batters in his MLB debut, but the Los Angeles Dodgers touched him up a bit with 10 hits and six earned runs while he was on the mound in what ended up an 8-4 loss for the Washington Nationals. Scott Kazmir gave up just four hits and one earned run in seven innings of work, improving to 6-0 with a 3.62 ERA in his last 12 starts going back to May 14th. It was the Nationals' fourth loss in four games with the Dodgers this season and it dropped them to 56-38 overall.

    The Washington Nationals were down to their last out and last strike before Daniel Murphy hit a game-tying, pinch hit homer to tie it up at 1-1 in the ninth. It went to 18 innings in D.C. before Pittsburgh Pirates' outfielder Starling Marte hit a game-winning home run.     Washington Nationals' right-hander Stephen Strasburg limited the New York Mets to one run on two hits in seven innings of work in which he struck out nine as the Nats evened up the first-half-ending four-game set with their NL East rivals, 3-1. Shawn Kelley, Oliver Perez, Blake Treinen and Jonathan Papelbon finished the Mets off after Strasburg was done for the day, throwing two scoreless frames to end the game. Nationals now 52-36 on the year with two to go before the All-Star Break.

Danny Espinosa hit a grand slam and a three-run home run to end an impressive month of June at the plate. Gio Gonzalez put together a solid start, and he got plenty of run support as the Nats rallied from an early deficit and kept piling on runs in their fifth straight win overall. Nationals now 48-32.
