'And the Word was made flesh, and dwelt among us, (and we beheld his glory, the glory as of the only begotten of the Father,) full of grace and truth ...No man hath seen God at any time; the only begotten Son, which is in the bosom of the Father, he hath declared him (John 1.14,18).The term 'only begotten' has been attacked in recent years, with modern translations changing it to terms such as 'unique' or 'a different kind'. The following points are discussed: - These passages (John 1.14,18) were used by those who trying to uphold the doctrine of the Trinity in the fourth century. - The changed view on this passage was influenced by Westcott who wrote a paper against it. - The rise of broader modern evangelicals desiring to return to 'only begotten'.

16/06/2023 Duração: 43minRev. John Greer explains the doctrine of the Trinity: in the Godhead there be three persons, of one substance, power, and eternity; God the Father, God the Son, and God the Holy Ghost. The Father is of none, neither begotten, nor proceeding: the Son is eternally begotten of the Father: the Holy Ghost eternally proceeding from the Father and the Son.The following points are discussed:- The Trinity can be found in certain statements that cannot be understood any other way (Genesis 1.26).- The Bible states that God is one God (Deuteronomy 6.4).- The Bible makes it clear that there are three persons in the Godhead (Isaiah 48).The message concludes by looking at 1 Peter 1.2, 'Elect according to the foreknowledge of God the Father, through sanctification of the Spirit, unto obedience and sprinkling of the blood of Jesus Christ: Grace unto you, and peace, be multiplied.'

500th Anniversary of Martin Luther's German New Testament
12/12/2022 Duração: 03minIt would be remiss of us not to recognise the anniversary of Martin Luther's New Testament translation. First published in 1522 it was the vanguard for Reformation translations that would shape the church and Christianity today. Luther completed this translation over a number of months while in Wartburg Castle. He was the subject of a staged kidnapping by Fredrick II while returning to Wittenberg from Worms, and remained in Wartburg Castle from May 1521 to March 1522. Concealed under the name of 'Knight George' he translated the New Testament into German, working from the Greek rather than the Latin as most previous translators into German had done. Luther used the skills of colleagues at Wittenberg to ensure linguistic accuracy: Philip Melanchthon is believed to have supplied feedback on this edition of the New Testament and then a larger team for the whole Bible. The New Testament was published in 1522, six months after he left Wartburg.
