If you have been playing professionally for some time, eventually you will need a manager. How do you pick a manager? What's the difference between a manager and an agent? We talk to legendary manager Bennett Glotzer about just that! Bennett was a lawyer that decided to become a manager and in 1967 started managing Blood, Sweat & Tears. Other clients he has managed are Procol Harum, Tom Rush, among others. He formed Grossman-Glotzer Management with Albert Grossman in 1969 and managed Janis Joplin, The Band, Paul Butterfield Blues Band, Gordon Lightfoot, The Paul Winter Consort, and others like Gil Evans and Otis Rush. In 1973 he moved to California and, untill 2003, managed artists like Frank Zappa, Nina Hagen and Gang Of Four. We will talk to Bennett about how management has changed, dealing with new technologies, social media, and, most importantly, the do's and don't's when choosing the manager for you!

Studio guitarist, artist and educator Lance Allyn returns to the show with luthier Jeff Strametz. Jeff is the founder of Boulder Creek Guitars. Lance had brought one of these beautiful guitars to the show with Les Wise (check the FLO Guitar-Enthusiasts archives, June 8, 2015) but Lance didn't get to play the guitar on the show. I did get to try it out after the show and I had to have Jeff and Lance back on the show! Boulder Creek has a very interesting design and the tone of these guitars are beautiful. We will be trying out a bunch of these guitars live in studio and will be also talking to Jeff Strametz about these amazing instruments!

Kowabunga!!! Surf's up at All About Guitar!! What is surf music? Where did it start? What is the "surf" sound and how do you get it? We discuss that and more tonight with some of the people that were there during those days of twangy guitars and loads of reverb!! Joining me is Tom Potts, who played with the Chancellors. The Chancellors, by the way, was the group that singer-songwriter Paul Williams started his legendary career! Tom and the Chancellors were the traveling house band for Kasey Kasem and backed singers Jackie DeShannon, Round Robin, Terry Stafford and many more from that period. Also joining me is Matt Quilter, brother of Pat Quilter, of Quilter Amps. Matt was the guitarist for the Reventlos. He also teaches guitar at the prestigious Sierra Surf Music Camp. We all know, as guitarists, the problems we encounter when we play live, especially when we are trying to recreate the sounds we get in the studio. And even more difficult is trying to get the sound of our acoustic instruments to sound as close as possible in a high volume live situation. There are many options and solutions to miking our acoustic guitars, but what about those other instruments we are called upon to use? Tonight we explore two things: first some other stringed instruments that guitarists have in their arsenal. Joining me is multi-instrumentalist David Maldonado. Besides being a fantastic flamenco guitarist, he is a very versatile musician and he brings to the studio some of his other instruments he plays. We take a look at the banjo, mandolin, and bazouki. Second, we take a look at the problems on how to amplify these instruments live. Also joining us is Rob Turner. Rob is the founder of EMG pickups. Rob was one of the pioneers in using active pickups and EMG pickups have been inst
