Renowned blind entrepreneur and lecturer Urban Miyares is an accomplished sailor with more than 55 years and 25,000 miles of offshore sailing experience. After returning from Vietnam as a disabled veteran, he helped launch the Challenged America adaptive sailing program in San Diego, California in 1978. Join Seminars@Hadley as Urban discusses his passion for sailing, how he got started and what he’s doing at Challenged America, including the basics for sailing and tips and tricks for blind sailors.

Ted Hull was an integral part of Motown, and a shaping force in Stevie Wonder's life. For six years, he was Stevie's private teacher, advisor, road manager, and constant companion. As a teacher, Ted enabled young Stevie to pursue his education and his career. As a man who is legally blind himself, Ted helped Stevie discover that blindness does not have to impair independence, nor limit life's adventure. Join Seminars@Hadley as we meet Ted Hull, long-time administrator for the Florida Division of Blind Services and author of the popular book, 'The Wonder Years: My Life and Times With Stevie Wonder', as he reveals a behind-the-scenes story of Motown's early years and how he turned the world into Stevie Wonder's classroom.

Presenters Mark Lucas, executive director of the United States Association of Blind Athletes, and Jennifer Armbruster, a Goalball gold medalist who works at the Lakeshore Foundation, a provider of recreation opportunities for people with disabilities, will talk about current popular sports and tell listeners how they can get in the game. This hour-long seminar will be moderated by Hadley Senior Vice President Dawn Turco. Time will be provided for questions and answers.

There is plenty of time before the holidays to create beautiful gifts that are not only personal expressions, but friendly to the wallet as well. Whether working on gifts on your own or as a family, creating handmade gifts is great fun. Join Hadley instructors Don Golembiewski, Debbie Siegel and Linn Sorge as we discuss beading, knitting, craft projects and more. Ideas do not stop with the gift itself, but carry through to some great wrapping ideas! The 60-minute seminar will be moderated by Karen Woodfork, Hadley’s director of student services (and a jewelry-maker) and will include resource information and time for questions.

Ever wonder what it’s like to be alone in a boat without being able to see? Captain Lawrence Euteneier will entertain and educate you with stories of fishing from the world’s first fishing boat for the blind. Lawrence is a life-long and semi-professional fisherman who competes in fishing tournaments, organizes guided fishing adventures, advises the fishing industry on accessibility and teaches people with vision loss to fish. Functionally blind since age 22, Lawrence has also invented the world’s first fishing boat for the blind (www.blindfishingboat.com). Join us to learn about fishing techniques and gear that will have you catching more than your sighted friends. It's those with experience using their sense of touch who catch the most fish. Time for questions and answers will be provided.
