Historiography!

We study more of the working class family through Roseanne and Dan Conner (not O'Connor's, sorry for the mistake!) How is this family similar to the Flintstones (see the last episode) and how are they different. Why is it important that working class folks got to watch this? I think a big reason is that it helped them feel understood, and helped them know that main stream America knew about their plight and their worries. Woah! Electricity is so cool! Electricity had been around for a bit, but was still a growing industry with so much to explore and do. Women were going to college but they still appeared to have very different experiences than men did. Would the woman in this film be able to easily obtain an electrical engineering degree? This film is so interesting because of all the new historical questions it brings up!

An episode of Sabrina the Teenage Witch (The Crucible) does a surprisingly accurate portrayal of the actual Salem Witch Trials! This is a fun one! We discuss an episode of Arthur in which he breaks his families computer. We tackle the famous 1980's Wendy's Training Video! Why the heck was it made and why was it important? Part of the answer can be found by studying the products of that time period! There is of course something interesting to be learned about race relations in the 80's as well, but that is something that an expert (not me) could explain but is an important issue to think about when watching. I found some engaging primary sources on the rise of the internet! The first is an instructional video from 1996 on how to use the internet as a kid for studying and playing games! https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=A81IwlDeV6c The second is a show from 1995 called, "Computer Chronicles" which played on PBS! There are several key indicators and predictions of what the internet was going to become! We also get into issues of slavery, and how this episode chose to portray it, and what that says about America in the late 50's. This one will make your brain happy!
