St. Louis Blues The Drop Podcast

In this episoede of The Drop we discuss the eventual  return of Jay Bouwmeester to the Blues lineup and how, or if it will affect rookie Vince Dunn. Then we get to the highlights of the Blues and Blue Jackets game. It was a tough physical game. Jake Allen, was as usual, big in goal for the Blues. While the Blues offense came alive for 4 goals to beat the Blue Jackest 4-1.

The Blues would head out on the road for a game against the Carolina Hurricanes. The Hurricanes are playing .500 hockey, but have a fast and talented roster. The Blues and Hurricanes would not get their offenses going until the second period when both teams would score just one minute and four seconds apart. It would stay that way until late in the 3rd period when Brayden Schenn would give the Blues the lead and win at 2-1. 

The Blues headed home to play the Calgary Flames and hopefully get back on the winning track. The Flames would take the lead early, but the Blues would dominate the second and third periods to win 5-2. The blues were lead by stellar performances by goalie Jake Allen and forward Alex Steen. We also discuss the Edmonton Oilers and how a lot of people are very upset at their lack luster start. 

Tthe Blues visited sin city to play their first game ever against the expansion Golden Knights. T-Mobile Arena was packed and the fans were ready for a exciting game. The fans would not be disapointed. The Blues took a lead in the first period on a goal by Magnus Paajarvi. The Knights would take the lead in the second on 2 power play goals. The Blues would tie the game late in the 3rd period, but eventually lose the game in overtime 3-2.

The Blues traveled to Colorado for their 2nd game of a back to back set. The Boys were surely tired, but they played well and outlasted the Avalanche for a 4-3 win.

The Blues faced their division rival Chicago for the frist time this season.. The Blues were looking to show Chicago they had improved while the Blackhawks wanted to show St. Louis they were still the team to beat in the central division. The Blues dominated most of the game and were lead by Jaden Schwartz. Schwartz burried 3 goals and gave the Blues a 5-2 win. The win moved the Blues in to first place in the central division.

The Blues headed to Tampa to try and get back on the winning track. They ran in to a hot goalie, Roberto L:uongo, against the Panthers and would have to face Andrei Vasilevskiy in Tampa. Vasivelskiy kept the Blues out of the net until late in the 3rd, but it was not enough, and Tampa squeaked out a 2-1 victory.

The Blues head o Florida to take on the Panthers and goalie Roberto Luongo. There would be no scoring until the second period. when Paul Stastny would give the Blues a 1-0 lead just 1 minute and 14 seconds in to the second period. The Panthers would tie it about 1 minute later. After that the Panthers took control of the game. The Blues tested Luongo several times, but he would not break until late in the 3rd period. Giving the Panthers a 5-2 win.

The Blues headed to Madison Square Garden to play their second game of this road trip against the New York Rangers. For the second time this year they would be facing a former teammate in Kevin Shattenkirk. Shattenkirk signed a four year free agent deal with the Rangers after spending six and a half years as a member of the Blues defensive core. Mdison Square Garden was rocking and both teams had a great first period. The Blues scored two in the first on goals by Carl Gunnarsson and Brayden Schenn. While the Rangers got a power play goal from Mike Zibanejad. Henrik Lundqvist and Carter Hutton kept the game locked at 2-1 until Jaden Schwartz scored an empty net goal to ice the game for the Blues 3-1.

The Blues head out for 4 games on this east coast road trip. They played the Islanders to kick off the road trip on Monday afternoon. Former Blue Doug Weight is behnd the bench now as the head coach for the young, but improving Islanders. National Hockey League stars love to play big in the Big Apple and Vladamir Tarasenko did not dissapoint the arena or television audience. Tarasenko would score 2 goals and give the Blues a 2-0 lead headed in to the 3rd. Though behind, the Islanders never gave up and continued to pepper Blues Goalie Jake Allen with shots until Islanders veteran Andrew Ladd got the Islanders back in the game with a goal in the 3rd period. While excited to be back in the game they were not satisfied and tied the game on a goal by Anders Lee to take it to overtime. Both teams had opportunities in the OT, but did not capatalize on any of the chances. It took goals by Brayden Schenn and Vladimir Tarasenko in the shoout out to secure the win for the Blues.

The Blues headed home to Scottrade Center for their home opener and second game of the season. The Stars and former Blues head coach Ken Hitchcock would vist St Louis. Blues goaltender Jake Allen stood on his head in the first period. Eventually the Blues put 3 pucks behind Dallas goalie Kari Lehtonen in just around 4 minutes to lead 3-0. The Blues would get 1 in the 3rd and Dallas would get 2, but it was not enough and the Blues win their second game of the year 4-2.  

The Blues opened the season against the defending Stanley Cup champion Pittsburgh Penguins. The Blues controlled most of the play in the first 2 periods, but the Penguins roared back to tie the game 4-4 late in the 3rd period. Vladimir Sobotka, Jaden Schwartz, Brayden Schenn, and Vladimir Tartasenko all had great games. However, the star of the game would be defensemen and captain of the Blues Alex Pietrangelo. He scored 2 goals in the game. Including the game winner in over time.

The Blues get ready for the regualr season, but they mist deal with another key injury. Fabbri is out for the year after injuring the same knee that kept him out from February of 2017 until trainign camp. They find his replacement in former Bl;ue Scottie Upshall. While also taking a shot at future hall of famer Jaromir Jagr.

The Blues prospects shined in Traverse City and it is just days away from the St. Louis Blues 2017 training camp. It's time for The Drop to discuss camp and the 2017-2018 season.  

The NHL names Valadimir Tarasenko the # 4 forward in the NHL. While Robby Fabbri continues to rehab from his season ending injury he suffered on February 4th of last season. As the Blues try to move forward with much needed renovations of Scottrade Center. The Comptroller Darlene Green refuses to sign the paperwork approved by the alderman to move forward and files a lawsuit to stop the renovations in it's tracks.

Its been a busy July and August for the Blues. We take a look at all of the blues latest headlines. We also spend some time discussing former Blues T.J Oshie, Brian Elliot, & Kevin Shattenkirks new contracts.

We take a look at the recent moves made my the Blues G.M Doug Armstrong and the Blues loss of David Perron to the Vegas Golden Knights.

The Blues add Ott, Jackman, Sydor, Berube, Tkaczuk, and Alexander to the coaching staff. We take an in depth look at Sidney Crosby and his scoring numbers to see if he is truly one of the top players of all time. Is it time for a change in the NHL playoff structure? I think so, and will give you my thoughts on why we should and how we could make it better.

We take a look back on the Blues season. The hiring of Mike Yeo while still signing Ken Hitchcock for his supposed last year in coaching.. The inability of Armstrong to pull the trigger on a trade for Shattenkirk at the 2016 NHL draft. The return of David Perron and the resurrection of Jake Allen from his dismall first half of the season.

The Blues season ended on sunday in Nashville. They were unable to overcome mistakes and Nashville won 3-1.
