St. Louis Blues The Drop Podcast

After a mistake ridden game in Nashville on Wednesday the Blues were looking to bounce back at home. They grabbed a 2-0 lead in the first period and played their overall best game of the year. Jake Allen was not tested much in the first period, but the Precators made him earn his contract in the second and 3rd periods. The Blues were lead in scoring by Ryan O'Reilly who had one goal plus an assist. While Vladimir Tarasenko added two assist of his own.

In this episode Lance reviews and discusses Craig Berube's first game behind the bench for the Blues. He also gets very heated over his discussion of Jake Allen and whether he was to blame for this 4-1 loss to Nashville.

The Blues fall 2-0 to the Kings. The Kings came in to the game as the last place team in the league. This would be the third time in 4 outings the Blues had been shutout. Due to the Blues sub-par season head coach Mike Yeo was fired as head coach after the game and Blues assistant coach Craig Berube was promoted to interim head coach. After beating the Golden Knights 4-1 on Friday the Blues were looking for a strong effort against the San Jose Sharks. They were unable to muster any offense and lost 4-0. The sharks were lead by veteran Joe Pavelski who added his 12th and 13th goals of the year. Goalie Aaron dell stopped all of the Blues 30 shots for the shutout.

After giving a stellar performance in a 1-0 loss to the Blackhawks Jake Allen was looking for more offensive support. He would recieved it in this big 4-1 road win. The Blues were lead by Ryan O'Reilly's 2 goals and Vladimir Tarasenko's 2 assist.

With the Blues early season struggles they neede a mistake free game against the Chicago Blackhawks. That would not happen as the Blckhawks only goal would be put in the net off of  Blues defensemen Jay Bouwmeester's skate.Blues goalie Jake Allen only faced 19 shots in the loss, but played much betetr then some of his starts in this early part of the season.

The Blues took  the lead on a late first period goal by Oskar Sundqvist. The Wild opened up the second period with two goals twenty five seconds apart to take a two to one lead . Alex Pietrangelo tied the game at two each with just a little over ten minutes left in the second. Mikael Granlund would get the game winner due to the Blues Colton Parayko inability to clear the puck out. 

The Blues won their second in a row and their fifth out of six games on this home stand. Ryan O'reilly would score his 8th goal of this young season. While Bozak added 2 assist and Steen added a goal and an assist in the win. 

Despite being outplayed for most of the game the Blues scored four goals to grab their third win in four games. Ryan O'Reilly led the Blues in scoring with his first hat trick in his NHL career. Chad Johnson was strong in goal facing 39 shots from the Hurricanes. Lance gives you his thoughts on the firing of former Blues head coach Joel Quenneville and his chances of coming back to St. Louis. 

The Blues were looking to extend their home stand two game winning streak with a season high third win in a row. However, their plans did not come to fruition as the Wild took advantage of Blues mistakes while playing a strong defensive game. The Wild held the Blues to just 16 shots in the game. While they peppered Jake Allen with 45 shots.

The Blues youngster played a big part in their second win in a row on this seven game homestand.. Oskar Sundqvist scored two goals and Robert Thomas added 2 assist in this big 5-3 win over the Golden Knights.

The Blues and Blackhawks played for the 3 time in this young season. In the first two meetings chicago won both games in overtime. This would not be the case in this game though. Although it was back and forth in the first two periods. The Blues would dominate the third period with 3 unanswered goals en route to a 7-3 win.

The Blues lack luster effort leads to a mistake ridden 7-4 loss in their first game of a seven game home stand.

The Blues outplayed the Jets in the fist period to take a 2-1 lead. Vince Dunn added a second period power play goal and the Blues took a 3-1 lead in to the third period. The Jets would tally two early third period goals to tie the game at 3-3. Minutes later Perron put the Blues back on top, but the Jets scored the tying goal late in the third to take it to overtime. Jacob Trouba got the game winning goal in overtime for the Jets 5-4 home win.

Coming in to the game St. Louis was looking for a statement game that would hopefully snap the blues out of their early season fog. They accomplished this with a dominating win over the Leafs. Not only did the offense shine, but Jake Allen and the defense kept the likes of Austin Matthews and John Taveras off of the scoreboard. The Blues took a 3-0 lead in to the third period and held on for a 4-1 win. The Blues were lead by new comer Ryan O'Reilly and David Perron. Perron had two assiston the night.  While O'reilly had a goal and an assist.

The Blues were hoping to get off on the right foot in Montreal with their first of 3 games on this Canadian road trip. The Canadians would get their first goal on a two on one breakaway just 39 seconds in to the first period. The Blues tied it up in the second period on a goal by defensemen Vince Dunn. The Canadians took the lead in the second only to see Brayden Schenn tie the game at two each late in the third period. The Canadians would get a late goal and the 3-2 win on a passing mistake by Blues defensemen Colton Parayko with just 11 seconds left in the third period. We end the podcast with Lance discussing the benching of Robert Thomas and much more. 

After losing to Chicago the previous night the Blues were hoping to bounce back with a win over the Ducks at home. Chad Johnson would be in net for his first start as a St. Louis Blue.. Chad played well and the Blues had a strong defensive effort in the first two periods, but the Ducks would get two unanswered goals in the third period on their way to a 3-2 win.

The Blues fail behind 2-0 in the first period, but took the lead in the third 3-2. Only to see Chicago tie the game late in the third period and eventually win 4-3 on a goal by Alex DeBrincat with just 9 seconds left in overtime. Jake Allen stopped 46 of 50 shots in a losing effort.

It was another great game for the Blues power play as they scored 2 goals out of 6 opportunities. David Perron grabbed both of those power play goals and added an even strength goal for the hat trick. Jake Allen was very solid in net. Which allowed the Blues to put pressure on Calagry in the offensive end. Lance ends the podcast discussing his disgust with the arbritators decision to lessen Austin Watsons suspension from 27 games to just 18 games for domestic abuse charges.

The Blues offense came alive and scored 4 goals against the visiting Blackhawks. Unfortunately, the Blues commited to many mistakes and Chicago behind Jonathan Toews hat trick won 5-4 in Overtime. Despite the loss rookies Sammy Blais and Jordan Kyrou impress Lance. He discusses this, Fabbri's return, and much more on this episode of The Drop.
