If there is a simple way to solidify our relationship with Jesus, I think it's to tell other people about what Jesus is doing in our lives and how He is saving us. This puts us into all sorts of situations that we may have never even anticipated, but those situations are where God is at work! Today we're going to see how Jesus himself got into these situations and was bold enough to have the big conversations with people that resulted in completely changed lives!

Sometimes you might think it's not a big deal to miss out on what is happening at The Grove. You might think your role is not important, or that no one will miss you. But God likes to do amazing things - when we are all together! As we are going through this My Grove Family series, we are learning the 4 things people at The Grove do to grow spiritually and this Sunday we'll be focusing on being a part of the life of The Grove - being involved and having growing relationships - and how that can actually be a catalyst to a greater walk with God.

Everyone belongs to a family. Sometimes it's the best part of our lives, sometimes the worst...sometimes both. Some families are from birth and other families come along in the middle of our lives - but family is important to everyone. I often hear people around The Grove talking about "The Grove family", like we are all related in the same way a family is. It's an amazing statement when you think about it, that God has brought people together and is growing us all in Him - together! So, in February, I'm going to be preaching on what it means to be a part of The Grove Family and how being in the family changes our lives for Jesus. I hope it will be a month of growth and encouragement to all of us - to the whole family! - James

If joy and salvation are directly related in the Bible, then our relationship with Jesus should be defined by these moments - or even just a general sense that it can't get any better than this!At Christmas, Jesus is God incarnate - in the flesh - and living among us. Through the birth, life, death and resurrection of Jesus, God is showing us His love that can never be improved on. God's love towards humanity just can't get any better than this...Perhaps this Christmas we could do well to slow down and let these moments overwhelm us a bit. And see how the joy of the Lord brings us hope and strength and is the most true cause of enjoyment in our lives.

I sometimes think that people who seem joyful must be stronger than the rest of us. Like, they have something in them that makes them able to be strong enough to have enough joy to overcome whatever happens to be around them.The Bible actually speaks of this in different terms. Instead of joy making people seem strong - the joy people have in the Lord actually is their strength. Joy and strength aren't just related, they are the same - or at least they come from the same place.In this Christmas season I hope we can gather together and encourage each other - to be strong - in the Lord.

Joy to the World - SeriesThere is something in all of us that hates to fail. It's almost a human condition to avoid failure at all costs. But I have to ask...what if it wasn't this way? What if we found joy in our failure?And not the kind of "it's OK, you'll do better next time" kind of feeling - but real and actual joy in the midst of failure. Of course there are failures in life that are tragic and painful, but I think most of the failures in my life that I worry about are totally livable. As we are moving towards Christmas together at The Grove, we aren't going to gloss over what real life is - we won't be celebrating in naivete. Yet, we will experience joy in our life, no matter the circumstances. Perhaps, even because of whatever circumstances we are in!

The Christmas season seems to go one of two ways for everyone I know. It can be a time of joy and happiness, with a grateful spirit towards God who becomes man for our sake. Or, it can be a time of stress and busy schedules, with a hope that 'we can just get through this'.I think the difference in these two experiences, in a word, is JOY! When the season overwhelms us and we cannot feel the JOY of the incarnation of our God - our focus becomes on the right now - instead of on God and His love. I hope we can, together, find and keep JOY this year... and make Christmas an experience instead of just an event.
