Jim Carrey once said "I think everybody should get rich and famous and do everything they ever dreamed of so they can see that it's not the answer." We’ve been talking about money, its influence and how to relate to it. In this sermon we talk the biggest roadblock to living a generous life: Materialism.

In Matthew 6 Jesus puts it bluntly: what are you living for? Where is your hope? What can't you live without? We continue our study this morning on money and the way Jesus calls us to view money in light of all eternity.

Money matters - there is no getting around it. In a very significant way your life will be shaped by what you think about money, and in a way that is inescapable, somehow, someway, your heart will struggle with money. In this new teaching series we'll talk about how we relate to money and possessions.

Jonah 4 is perhaps the most puzzling and mysterious chapter because it ends abruptly. What happened to Jonah? The reason Jonah ends so abruptly is because it suppose to make us think. In this sermon we talk about self-righteousness and how it exhibits itself in our anger, hypocrisy, and lack of compassion.

Jonah 3 describes the unprecedented change that takes place in Nineveh. In this story we are reminded that God can change people and places. Here in Boston we are in need of that change. In need of God's compassion.

Jonah is faces a spiritual crisis and is in a dark place. Like Jonah, we sometimes end up in the belly of the beast. How do you pray through struggle? Dark circumstances? Sometimes life is perplexing but we learn in Jonah that God is a sovereign Father who only does good to his children. The question is: are you an Orphan or a Child of God?

Running from God often results in ignorance, apathy, hypocrisy, and indifference. Is something of Jonah reflected in God's purpose for the city? Is something of Jonah reflected in your life?

Jonah is one the most well-known stories in the Bible, and the least understood! This story of God’s thick-headed and small-minded prophet levels a challenge to every generation of God’s people who are prone to hypocrisy and spiritual apathy. As Jonah runs from God and hides behind his religious piety, God’s wide mercy softens the hearts of the most unexpected people. This is a story meant to shake us awake to the surprising ways God works in our world, and in our own lives.

Generosity is at the heart of Christian faith. According to the Bible, money is a gift to be stewarded for Kingdom advancement. If we view money as a gift then the act of giving results in joy. However, if we view money as ours alone then the act of giving results in a burden. In this sermon we see how the Bible moves us to gratitude which results in generosity.

It's not enough to just know the Story of God. Christians are called to tell the story of God. In this practical sermon, we learn what it takes to share the story with those who don't believe.
