    02/02/2023 Duração: 02h32min

Ian Boddy has been at the forefront of the UK electronic music scene since 1983, when he both performed at the very first UK Electronica Festival in Milton Keynes and released his first vinyl album, The Climb. The formation of his DiN label in 1999 allowed Ian to actively collaborate with a wide variety of musicians as well as release music from other artists and celebrate its 100th release in 2022. The music we play is always governed by the new releases we receive, again a very varied selection, including the chill-out downtempo music of Thomas Lemmer, his unmistakable compositional signature sound. Relaxing symphonic scores of remixes from Stan Dart. On Winter Light Label, Rapoon & the duo Onasander & Ashtoreth give us ritualistic dark ambient & long form drones. Extremely dense and hypnotic sonic landscapes of Max Corbacho. Opening a portal to the universe in cosmic waves by Nova Stellaris, Natasha Barrett with a palette embracing musique concrete field recordings and electroacoustic music, & something we don’t usually have, a single by Nattefrost with vocals from Toril Snyen from a forthcoming album. We start with an extract from Robert Schroeder’s remastered Floating Music, edition 2023, which includes the bonus 23-minute track Floating In Slow Motion. Happy New year to you all, and welcome to our first edition of 2023, the eleventh year online. I hope you had a great time over Christmas and New Year Festivities. After losing two of the legends in electronic music in 2022, Vangelis & Klaus Schulze, it came as a shock to all of us to hear Manuel Gottshing had passed away on December 4th, regarded as one of the finest guitarists to come out of the German Krautrock scene who founded Ash Ra Temple in the early seventies. Also, a very good friend of mine and musician, Steve Smith, one half of the band Volt, lost his fight from a long illness two days before Christmas. As we approached the New Year, we heard that another musician Edward Artemiev had died. He was a Russian composer of electronic music and film scores, known outside of Russia for his soundtracks for films. It’s been a busy month again outside the music scene and with so many promos coming our way, decided that in the time we had between other projects would compile & release together two separate editions for November, giving us a breather for our last sessions of the year in December. The first podcast, no 221, features melodic uptempo music, progressive, sequential & energetic, with Berlin School-influenced tracks to round off a storming set of sequencing heaven for some of you. In the second, no 222, we delve into ambient music, the light & dark side, experimental and neo-classical, creating atmospheric futuristic & dramatic soundscapes, genuinely engaging. Ten years ago, our podcasts were released on iTunes. We’ve had many requests from listeners who didn’t use iTunes, saying they would like to hear early shows not available on any of the music sites we published on now (Soundcloud is popular). Your voices have been answered with the very first edition. Over time we will bring the missing podcasts up to date on those websites. Sequences was born out of the demise of the very first UK Electronic music audio magazine, Inkeys and the short-lived Syntrax and became a major UK electronic music magazine. Formed in 1991 as an audio cassette and no 14 to the finale issue in 2009, no 32 as a printed magazine/CD. In 2012 we published our podcasts on the internet, beginning with a nostalgic look at musicians featured on our CDs, which came with every issue of the printed magazines and not forgetting our early cassette tapes. Each edition was available on iTunes monthly. To date, this has increased nine more music sites, including Soundcloud, Player FM, Listennotes, Am

Most of the artists you recognise preview their new albums and tunes. Just a few new names on this latest podcast. Sébastien Guérive with his new single "Omega VI”, an extension of the album composed during the period of creation of the live show to introduce a more rhythmic piece, using a semi-modular synth improvisation around a theme to obtain a heady and atmospheric trance. The album GERRY, (Music Inspired by the Motion Picture), composed by Sylvain Textier, creates a neoclassical project with pop influences as romantic as the poetry from Lamartine, which inspired him, and Maciej Raurowicz (a.k.a. Macraur) creates electronic music based on repetitive and melodic motifs and loves to play the piano. We begin with tracks from Eagle’s recent output, Chocolate Cosmos with Brian Brylow, a.k.a. Ron Boots is among the most engaging Electronic Musicians ever exporting music from The Netherlands. Since the late 1980s, his work has been rooted in the Berlin School yet reaches far beyond the basic fundamentals of the genre. Combining elements of Contemporary Instrumental, Film Soundtracks and Spacemusic, Boots' music moves easily between the mainstream and the cosmic. In 1995, together with Kees Aerts, Ron founded the well-respected Groove Unlimited label. This was initially a vehicle for Ron and Kees to release their own solo albums and collaborations, such as BAH. The label has continued to this day, with an ever-growing worldwide roster of Electronic artists. Kees left Groove in 2011, leaving Ron to continue alone, but they parted as friends. Interestingly, these loops were recorded on gargantuan 60-foot analog tape reels, then played through eight guitar amps at once, which were actually highly listenable. We have lost two of the most influential composers in the electronic music scene in just over three weeks. Klaus Schulze & Vangelis both had music careers spanning over 50 years. I had the privilege of seeing both musicians performing, only once for Vangelis at the Royal Albert Hall in 1976, supporting his first album for RCA, Heaven & Hell. Klaus Schulze as many of you know was a member of Tangerine Dream, Ash Ra Tempel & Cosmic Jokers before departing on a solo career with a prolific output of over 100 albums. Greek composer Vangelis was best known for his epic soundtracks to Blade Runner, Chariots Of Fire & more, renowned for harnessing experimental electronic sounds from Avante -Garde to Symphonic, a "one man quasi-classical orchestra" composing and performing on the first take. As we take our journey into this latest edition, let’s reflect with sadness on the power & majestic sounds these two incredible musicians have given us over many decades., R.I.P. Emma was formed in 1994 by a team of fans and musicians who gathered together to create an organisation promoting electronic music in the UK, producing a regular newsletter and holding yearly festivals. 1994 saw two festivals in Derby, England, the first showcasing the best UK acts inc, John Dyson, Andy Pickford, Ian Boddy and Mark Shreeve. The second saw a more international lineup inc. Jonn Serrie (USA) & TK (Germany) both were very successful events. In 1995 the venue was switched to Sheffield. Again, the show had an international flavour with the highlight of two of our most successful artists, Ian Boddy & Andy Pickford, headlining. After those successful festivals, we were looking forward to more years devoted to EMMA, unfortunately, after some heated exchanges during our monthly meetings, with many leaving, left the remaining members said they could not carry on.
