Whiskey And Mash

This week Chris talks in third person as he explains what he and Gloria talk about. Namely, Chris and Gloria comment on the truth behind gamma globulin and the Mud Hens while also discussing a possible second career for Hawkeye in psychiatry (Ses 5 Ep 19 - Hepatitis). Next, they talk about how nice it is to see a father come back to his family as well as what type of coffee a general would prefer for his high-colonic (Ses 5 Ep 20 - The General's Practitioner).

This week we address some serious issues including, without being limited to, what good a one-legged running back is [hint: not very useful as a running back anymore], what happens when you start a fight you can't win (both from Ses 5 Ep 17 End Run) as well as what happens when you allow yourself to fall off the fidelity wagon [hint: a lot of audio editing] and what else that entails (Ses 5 Ep 18 Hanky Panky).

In this episode we talk about what it takes (a Navy Admiral, apparently) to solve a Times crossword puzzle from the 1950s (Ses 5 Ep 15 38 Across) as well as just what being an Army MASH unit champion ping pong player earns you (Ses 5 Ep 16 Ping Pong).

This week, in reviewing Ses 5 Ep 13 Hawk's Nightmare and Ses 5 Ep 14 The Most Unforgettable Characters, we realize that sometimes reality is stranger than dreams and that creative writing is hard even when you're not a company clerk. It's a two drink night and the power goes out shortly after recording this, so hang on!

In this week's *TWO DRINK* episode (consider yourself forewarned) we talk about what it takes to un-stop a horse as well as get a head nurse back in working order (Ses 5 Ep 11 - The Colonel's Horse) as well as what lengths the camp must go to in order to get itself back in order when it is infested with evil spirits with no Ghostbusters around to assist (Ses 5 Ep 12 - Exorcism).

This week we talk about what it takes to get a surgeon from the other side of the war, Supply, to come over to the 4077th to help the staff (Ses 5 Ep 9 - The Korean Surgeon) as well as what it takes to get Hawkeye to fire a pistol at the sky (Ses 5 Ep 10 - Hawkeye Get Your Gun). Simple, no-nonsense description this week as it's a holiday weekend and you have more important things to do than read this description. Happy Memorial Day.

Happy 52 episodes! :D Why's that so important? Because it means that we've been making episodes for a whole year's worth of weeks now! :D That aside, let's talk Freudian slips with this week's first episode, Dear Sigmund (Ses 5 Ep 7), wherein Sydney Freedman visist the 4077th to recover from depression. Worth noting, this episode was written AND directed by Alan Alda. Our second episode, Mulcahy's War (Ses 5 Ep 8), centers around Fr. Mulcahy and his struggle to connect with a patient who shot himself in the foot. Also, Frank learns the value in treating patients regardless of how they became wounded, their rank, or even their species. :)

In this, our 51st episode (almost 52! Gah!) we talk a lot about Margaret. In our first episode (Ses 5 Ep 5 - The Nurses) we see Margaret deal with her nurses while in an agitated state over not being welcome in their late night activities. Gloria provides some very good insights and observations about this episode that I would never have picked up. In The Abduction of Margaret Houlihan (Ses 5 Ep 6), we see the 4077th disrupted as Margaret goes missing when she helps a local Korean woman deliver a baby. Hilarity insues when Col. Flagg shows up to "help."

In this week's episode we look into what it is like to be rendered blind by a stove (Ses 5 Ep 3 - Out of Sight, Out of Mind) as well as just what effect trading in Corporal's stripes for a butter bar has on a person, his relationship with his peers, and his superiors (Ses 5 Ep 4 - Lt. Radar O'Reilly).

Be thou forewarned: this week's episode is over an hour long as the first episode we review is an hour long episode. That said, this week we talk about what happens when rumors of a Chinese advance fly at the 4077th (Ses 5 Ep 1 Bug Out) as well as how well Frank takes the news of Margaret's engagement (Ses 5 Ep 2 Margaret's Engagement). Also worth noting, WILLIAM CHRISTOPHER APPEARS IN THE OPENING CREDITS! :D

This week we encounter two episodes that are, perhaps, the two best episodes of the season: Ses 4 ep 23 Deluge and Ses 4 Ep 24 The Interview. Both Chris and Gloria higly encourage you to watch these two episodes in order. And, in terms of an entry point to M*A*S*H, these two episodes are a great place to start. In Deluge we watch as the 4077th is inundated by wounded as a timeline reset puts them back in 1950 (and the front of a Chinese advance). Also, in The Interview we see the actors respond in character to questions as an interviewer might pose during the first years of the Korean Conflict.

This week we talk about Ses 4 Ep 22, Smilin Jack (http://mash.wikia.com/wiki/Smilin'_Jack_(TV_series_episode)) and Ses 4 Ep 23, The More I See You (http://mash.wikia.com/wiki/The_More_I_See_You_(TV_series_episode)). How sweet life can be as well as what love means, both its presence and absence.

This week Gloria and Chris review the goings-on at the 4077th when Radar helps save a life, Hawkeye has trouble "perfomring," and Frank decides that the war can turn a profit (Ses 4 Ep 19 - Some 38th Parallels). Also, we explore Frank's mind as he brings Hawkeye up on charges of Mutiny when Hawkeye and BJ refuse to operate on shocky, unprepared patients being sent into OR by Frank (Ses 4 Ep 20 - The Novocaine Mutiny).

Happy Easter! This week we talk about what lengths Hawk and BJ will go to at Potter's bequest to molify Frank when Margaret is in Tokyo at a conference (Ses 4 Ep 17 Der Tag) as well as what happens when Hawkeye gives himself a concussion via Jeep (Ses 4 Ep 18 Hawkeye).

This week we find out the best way to interrogate Frank into doing the right thing (Hint: It involves whitewash apparently - Ses 4 Ep 13 The Gun) as well as what happens when you combine letters from back home for Potter, Margaret, Frank, Hwakeye, and BJ (Ses 4 Ep 14 Mail Call Again).

This week we talk about what lengths the members of the 4077th must go to in order to get Colonel Potter daily tomato juice (Ses 4 Ep 15 The Price of Tomato Juice) as well as what lengths Hawkeye must go to in order to get all the feet in camp inspected (Ses 4 Ep 16 Dear Ma).

This week (in which we again record multiple episodes of the podcast, so watch for the next couple weeks' worth to be very entertaining) we watched Frank become super paranoid while Sgt. Zale exemplifies double-standards (Ses 4 Ep 11 Of Moose And Men) and also see what lengths enlisted personnel will go to for a week in Tokyo as well as what happens when a person with a ferret face is put in charge of rodent control (Ses 4 Ep 12 Soldier of the Month).

In this episode we see where Jesus Christ is going in Korea (Ses 4 Ep 9 Quo Vadis, Captain Chandler) as well as how BJ sees the camp operating during one of its down times (Ses 4 Ep 10 Dear Peggy).

In this episode we find out just how good Frank is at negotiating (Ses 4 Ep 7 Dear Mildred). Hint, not very. Also, we find out what happens when Meg Cratty arrives at the 4077th with her kids (Ses 4 Ep 8 The Kids). Hint: It breathes life back into the staff in the best of ways.

This week we talk about the dark world of back-room medicine that has infected and subverted the otherwise squeaky clean 4077th (Ses 4 Ep 5 Hey, Doc) as well as what happens when Potter, Frank, BJ, Hawkeye and Radar attend a "medical conference" (Ses 4 Ep 6 The Bus). Hint: They get lost and stranded.
