  • Rob's Soapbox - Your Partisan Is Showing (Or Maybe It's Your Stupid)

    22/08/2022 Duração: 13min

Last week, as we were getting people up to speed on all things politics, we discussed inflation, the cost of eggs, and crime. Then, we had the audacity to report that Donald Trump has disgustingly vowed to sic the FBI on Barack Obama, Joe Biden, and Hillary Clinton if he’s re-elected president, while also discussing the lunacy of Climate Change morons claiming that the worst drought in 1200 years is the result of humans and fossil fuels, while at the same time admitting they have no idea what cause the devastating drought of 800…HUH? If you don’t know what caused the worst drought in history, how can you claim to know what is absolutely causing this one?I closed by pointing out that the extreme fringes of both sides are driving this entire nation into the proverbial ditch. And then came this asinine email from a listener:“I’m quite confused as to how you can compare the damaging of fellow Americans (Trump saying he will have federal agents raid past presidents just because) to climate change; a discussion whic

  • Rob's Soapbox - The Inescapable Grid

    14/08/2022 Duração: 09min

A few weeks ago, we explored the predictions of a futurist; not someone who reads sea scrolls or talks to God, but an accredited person who, using a combination of research, statistics, imagination, and intuition, analyzes and makes educated projections and predictions about the future. Most people agree Sir Isaac Newton was the first known futurist way back in 1687.The one we highlighted was named Ray Hammond, who, like the writers of “The Simpsons,” has had an uncanny knack for correctly predicting trends or occurrences around the world. A few years ago, Mr. Hammond outlined what he believed the world would look like, in a variety of areas, come the year 2040. Truth be told, it’s almost impossible to argue with almost all of his predictions, some of which are already here, if only in their infancy.Back in 2017 Hammond said that by the year 2040, we will all wear a huge range of sensors that will constantly monitor things such as blood pressure, blood sugar and blood oxygen level. DUH…we already have Fitbits

  • Rob's Soapbox - Fu*k Marry Kill

    31/07/2022 Duração: 06min

Almost everyone knows the game…you get three names and you have to choose who you would fuck, who you would marry and who you would kill. For example: Hillary Clinton, Melania Trump, and Laura Bush. Well, Obviously we’re gonna fuck Melania. She probably hasn’t been laid in decades and she’s foreign, which means she’s nuts in bed. Hillary shall be killed and the world will be a better place and Laura Bush we marry solely for the inheritance when the bitch dies. I realize those weren’t the three most fun names available, but I really wanted to kill Hillary so I went with that. Note to the Secret Service: This is satire; I have no interest in coming near Mrs. Clinton as I assume she smells quite rancid and has horrible breath as well. She is safe. Some people claim the game is better if you use people that you know as opposed to celebrities and politicians, but I would like to suggest that we’re all doing it wrong; while the premise of the game is fun as designed, there’s a lesson to be learned as well. Rather th

  • Rob's Soapbox - The Women I Hate Most

    24/07/2022 Duração: 06min

I absolutely understand white men, especially those over aged 40, who are resistant to the idea that America is systemically racist. Before I lose too many of you, let’s start with what that means; systemic, or institutional racism, is a form of bias that is embedded in the laws and regulations of a society or an organization. It manifests as discrimination in areas such as criminal justice, employment, housing, health care, education, and political representation. In other words, the deck is stacked either in favor of one group of people or against another…or both simultaneously. To suggest to white men that America is designed that way is, to some of them, an attack. They hear it as “you’ve had it easy,” even though that’s not what’s meant; rather the implication is not that white men have had it easy, just that they, as a group, haven’t had it as hard as any other group. Others hear less of an attack and more of an insult directed towards a country that they’ve had it pretty good in. Then there are those who

  • Rob's Soapbox - Yup... I'm Going There

    17/07/2022 Duração: 09min

We were on vacation when Roe Versus Wade was overturned…I will now pause as you realize that we’re about to talk about abortion…Put simply; the Dobbs decision returned the issue of abortion to each of the 50 states. In practical terms, regardless of intent or motivation, the Supreme Court found a way to further divide a nation that hasn’t been this divided since the Civil War. Essentially, we will, when everything shakes out, have a country in which about half of the states are destinations for what I am calling “abortion tourism.” Economies will thrive on providing safe havens for women who want to have abortions but live in states that don’t allow it. Meanwhile, the other half of the states will continue to do everything they can to try to prevent such things from happening by attempting to criminalize leaving their state to intentionally commit what would be, in their state, a crime, but is not in another. In other words, things are going to be a lot more complicated and messy; just what this nation needed.

  • Rob's Soapbox - The Dog Ate My Homework

    10/07/2022 Duração: 12min

While on summer vacation, I probably composed, in my mind, a dozen different soapboxes. Being away from the job makes me more creative and free-thinking; and even though I avoid the news like the plague during these times, my mind wanders to various subjects, ranging from the funny to the serious, the topical to the philosophical.I don’t write these ideas down for a couple of reasons; first, I don’t want to work and I’m afraid I won’t stop myself at a couple of sentences and pretty soon…BAM! I’m writing soapboxes on vacation. Secondly, I’ve always figured that if the ideas are that good, they’ll save in my memory or come up repeatedly until I actually execute them. It’s just my process and it’s served me well.Sunday morning before returning to work arrived, and I knew that a new Soapbox was on the top of my very long list of work-related items. While I had slowly climbed back into working a few days earlier, Sunday was going to be a long one. I did myself no favors by sleeping in almost later than any day dur

  • Rob's Soapbox - We Need Shame

    12/06/2022 Duração: 11min

Shame is a vital part of a freely functioning society, and it has been disappearing in ours for over 30 years now. There was a campaign in the 1990s to understand and sympathize with those who steal. The classic example used was the struggling single father who needed to feed his baby, and therefore, robbed a 7-11. I’m not even sure this ever happened, but the example was bandied about endlessly as a way to teach us all that there’s a story behind everything, and therefore, we should feel compassion towards this mystery father and not only NOT prosecute him, but more importantly, not shame him or those like him who are merely “down on their luck.”Thus began the long and winding road of shaming no one, ever, for anything. From criminals, we moved on to bodies; no one should ever be made to feel “less than” because of their appearance. There’s no such thing as “fat,” or “obese” and certainly, no one should ever be called ugly or disgusting because someone somewhere surely finds them attractive and, therefore, we

  • Rob's Soapbox - The Argument Against Democracy

    05/06/2022 Duração: 06min

There are between five and seven basic arguments against democracy and they all fall flat for me…except for one, which was on display more than ever the last few days.As a rule, I will always side with freedom. While there is no such thing as absolute freedom, America, for the most part, is as close as the world has ever seen to such, and in my opinion, that’s a good thing…until I am reminded of the one argument that always makes me rethink my commitment to freedom and democracy. The most popular argument against democracy is that the constant change of leadership leads to instability. This is asinine. America isn’t a company that needs the same CEO for decades; democracy thrives with constantly new ideas, people, and directions.Another objection is that consulting more people leads to delays…seriously? More ideas are a bad thing? More perspectives and life experiences are wrong? Get a lifeMy “favorite” (sarcasm) complaint of democracy is “Ordinary people don't know what is good for them,” which is the most el

  • Rob's Soapbox - To Quote "A Few Good Men..."

    30/05/2022 Duração: 10min

Warning; you may be wasting your time, or at least putting yourself into a position of Déjà vu. It’s very likely that you will hear a version of this soapbox at some point on the RAD Radio show in the next few days; it all depends on mood. My mood, the team’s mood, the audience’s mood, the mood of society, and the news of the day as a whole. We’ll see.The RAD show has been off for a couple of weeks and is now back, for a little while…and then we’ll be gone on our previously scheduled Summer Vacation, and then we’re scheduled to be back. We’ll see.Curious? Good. That’s right; we’re still taking our Summer Vacation as scheduled despite an unwanted and unwelcome couple of weeks off in late May. The reason we’re still taking our vacation is simple; if we don’t, you may never hear the show again.Sound ominous? Good. There are actually many reasons that the show has been off for a while and I’m going to share one of them with you now; it’s hardly the main reason, in fact, I’d currently rank it as the fifth-greatest c

  • Rob's Soapbox - The Worst Hall Of Fame

    08/05/2022 Duração: 06min

With so much “bad” happening right now, ranging from the Invasion of Ukraine to the rage over abortion again taking center stage in America, let’s escape for a few minutes and talk about something less important, seemingly trivial, yet necessary to confront. The Major League Baseball and National Football League Hall of Fames are the most coveted and noteworthy Halls in all of America. There’s a Hall for almost every interest, ranging from croquet to paper. I’m not sure why we need an Insurance Hall of Fame, but I sure am glad there’s the AVN Hall of Fame, which honors the best of the best in the porn industry. I suppose there’s a reason why the Mascot Hall exists, so too the Quilters, Scuba Divers, and Internet Halls of Fame. All of which makes the most embarrassing Hall of Fame of them all so shameful. You see, the Basketball Hall of Fame actually inducts people that have something to do with the game; either as a player, coach, or even referee of the game of basketball. The AVN Hall of Fame includes porn stars

  • Rob's Soapbox - Why Stop There?

    01/05/2022 Duração: 05min

As the Biden Administration continues to swirl downward and circle the toilet bowl of history, it continues to dig its’ collective fist deeper and deeper into its’ almost empty bag of tricks to find something, anything, that will stop the bleeding of the lowest approval rating in the history of all American Presidents.Enter the re-emergence of floating the idea of forgiving student loan debt.92% of all student loans are owned by us…the United States Government. Thus, our elected leaders have the ability to say “you no longer owe us,” and simply add it to the national debt.As you can imagine, this is a very popular idea with young people who have large student loan debt. This is how desperate the administration is; they’re considering pandering to the group of voters that vocally supports them overwhelmingly yet never, ever, shows up to vote on election day. Of all voters aged 18-29, never have more than 18% of them shown up, and that was their high watermark in 2008 when they ushered President Obama into the

  • Rob's Soapbox - The United States of Compliance

    24/04/2022 Duração: 08min

Long before Covid, I was ringing the bell about the Pussification of America. It takes shape in many forms ranging from the destruction of the appreciation of the need for toughness and healthy forms of masculinity, to trophies for everyone and making sure our kids never feel what it’s like to fail or be disappointed. We’re a society that believes words can be violent, closes school because of the forecast of a heavy rainstorm the next day, and is now literally afraid of getting sick.During the last two years, it has been nothing short of stunning, yet not surprising to see how far gone we are. The overwhelming majority of Americans meekly obeyed politicians and scientists who ordered us to do things that made absolutely no sense. The few of us who questioned, and even pointed out observational proof of the folly of the various mandates and policies were branded everything from lunatics to Granny-Killers.Fast forward to present, as some Americans emerge from the comfort of their scaredy-cat bubbles they are se

  • Rob's Soapbox - It's Friday In America

    17/04/2022 Duração: 08min

All this weekend headlines screamed “homebuying is now as expensive as it has been in a generation!”https://www.deseret.com/utah/2022/4/14/23025299/u-s-mortgage-rates-5-percent-home-buying-most-expensive-inflation-housing-pricesAnd my first thought was “what isn’t?!?!?!”But then I realized that I’m old…and I’ve lived through 2-3 generations of this…and that if homes (and everything else) is as expensive as it has been in a generation, then we should also remind everyone that we went through a period where they were as affordable as they were in a generation. We America, the economy, society, and everything else is cyclical. It all comes around and goes around. Ironically, it was on Easter weekend that I grasped what my father was saying a couple years ago when he calmly reassured us all that, essentially, we’ll be fine. America will find its’ way back and everything will work out. When he first said it I was skeptical, since my arc in life was growing up in the miserable 70’s, the scary cold-war 80’s, the boom

  • Rob's Soapbox - Why Does Everything Have To Be About Race?

    11/04/2022 Duração: 10min

Every single time race is injected into a conversation, some moron…usually a middle-aged white man…shouts out “why does everything have to be about race?”For example, last week the reggae band Soja won the Grammy for best reggae album and social media exploded because everyone in the band is white! a Jamaican woman on Twitter said “spice losing the Grammy to soja has proven that we Jamaicans & our entertainment sector has work to do…the Grammy’s, along with these cultural vultures, are way too presumptuous, our culture is being disrespected & blatantly robbed.”A Jamaican man wrote: “A white American group #soja won a Grammy for best reggae album wtf Talk about culture appropriation”https://www.usatoday.com/story/entertainment/music/2022/04/04/soja-grammys-awards-reggae-category-sparks-backlash/9464001002/We tried to talk about it on the show and discuss whether or not there was a legitimate point of view for people from a specific part of the world feeling as though their cultural contribution was bei

  • Rob's Soapbox - The Problem With Perspective

    03/04/2022 Duração: 08min

It is my sincere hope that this will be the last, and hopefully most unique and least polarizing perspective on the “Slap Heard Around the World,” and the truth is, it isn’t about Will Smith or Chris Rock at all. It’s much more about us; and not in that pandering, drivel-soaked way most are using this moment as a way to point out that we, the people, are to blame for everything because we’re an angry society, we worship celebrities, we’re all snowflakes, we’ve demonized masculinity, blah blah blah.Thinking about this more in-depth, and, as I often do, trying to find the angle no one is taking, I stumbled upon something that can’t be ignored. While nothing other than childish rage defends Will Smith’s behavior, we are told that Chris Rock’s joke was offensive for three potential reasons as follows: Jada Pinkett Smith has alopecia, an autoimmune disease that causes a person’s hair to fall out.Whether Rock knew about the alopecia or not, it is well-known in the black community that you don’t make fun of

  • Rob's Soapbox - Attacking The Cart Pullers

    20/03/2022 Duração: 09min

More than a decade ago, I wrote a column about the cart-pullers; those of us who lead the way, take the risks, create and provide the jobs, and quite candidly, keep the country running. We don’t ask for notoriety, gratitude, or attention…we just ask that you not vilify us vis a vie envy. So much for that, as here we are again. On the lighter side of this topic, I saw a headline last week as the baseball lockout was ending that read “MLB owners retain their billions.” Long story short, said the article, was that millionaires will again be playing baseball this spring, paid by billionaires, and for some reason, the 30 people that own a baseball team are somehow the bad guys. Sure, I get it…defending wealthy people is less popular now than ever before, and to be completely candid, many of them are, in fact, scumbags. But this ongoing childish call for wealth redistribution under the guise of life not being fair is not only infantile, it’s founded in fallacy. Yes, those big, bad, evil MLB owners will remain billio

  • Dog Parents Are Better - Rob's Soapbox

    06/03/2022 Duração: 05min

I’ve noticed that almost any time someone is making a point about raising dogs they always preface it with some sort of disclaimer making sure to not offend parents of human children. Something like “I’m not comparing raising dogs to raising children…”Well, guess what? I am…and I’m here to tell you that dog parents are better. Now, the beauty of that is that it absolutely enrages some people. In my experience, those who have raised both children and dogs actually agree that raising dogs is more difficult if you’re doing it right…and therein lies the secret; the only people I know that get truly worked up over this supposition are either horrible dog owners, horrible parents, or both.Parents of humans actually have it easy, especially in the 21st century! For starters, unlike dog parents, human parents have no reason to believe that their children will die before them. While tragic when it happens, thank god it’s rare. It’s not only not rare for dog parents, it’s part of the deal. We literally agree to raise, t
