Rob's Soapbox - Rabbit Season! Duck Season!
01/08/2021 Duração: 14minIt’s official…we’re living in a cartoon. There’s no other way to accurately describe it any longer. Just stay with me for a minute, because while none of this will admittedly solve anything, it is laughably beyond comical just how stupid we have become. If you have children, have ever spent time with children, or once were a child (this should cover every living soul on planet Earth), then you can relate to what it’s like to try to pin them down when you’ve caught them in a lie. They are masters at trying to change the subject, distract you, and explaining how they didn’t say what they just said. Most notably, they will not only say things to your face that are provably untrue, they will continue to just make things up to further bolster the credibility of the original lie. And they just keep going and going and going.I remember a doozy I tried to pull on my mom when I was around 10 years old. I grew up as what we called a “latchkey kid,” which, to the horror of too many of you means a child who returns to an

Episode 11 - RAD pROBcast - Eddie from Nor Cal Gun Vault
30/07/2021 Duração: 01h02minEddie Ford from Nor Cal Gun Vault joins me for a deep dive into gun rights, “reasonable” gun control, and the worst of the worst on both sides of the gun debate in America. Along the way, we discuss the ramifications of taking a human life, the rising crime rate in America, and how things have changed in society as a result of Covid. Come to think of it, we pretty much solve all of the world’s problems, including race relations, raising children, and how to avoid being a victim. We also delve into Eddie’s 20-year naval career, being raised by a father in law enforcement, and growing up in Stockton, California and how much it’s changed.See Privacy Policy at https://art19.com/privacy and California Privacy Notice at https://art19.com/privacy#do-not-sell-my-info.

Rob's Soapbox - It Sucks Being An American In America
25/07/2021 Duração: 07minI’ve touched on this before and shall continue to do so, since so very few people are aware of it, and even fewer seem to care much once they find out, which remains galling to me.As Americans remain at one another’s throats over whether or not children need to wear masks in schools and/or get vaccines, and whether or not vaccinated adults need to wear masks, the country is literally importing Covid cases at an alarming rate.According to U.S. Immigration and Customs Enforcement (ICE), U.S. Customs and Border Protection (CBP…also known more casually as “The Border Patrol,”), and The Department of Homeland Security (DHS), the United States this year, will allow nearly 2 million migrants to enter America illegally by the end of this calendar year, which will be the highest number in more than two decades. There are 13 states in America whose entire populations are below 2 million. Essentially, in 2021, we will have let in the equivalent of the entire population of Montana and Rhode Island combined. Or Hawaii and

Episode 10 - RAD pROBcast - Money Buys Happier-Ness
23/07/2021 Duração: 51minIn this episode, by popular demand, we explore the notion that money buys happier-ness…if you’re spending your mental energy worrying about how to pay rent, feed your family, and stay away from debt collectors, you aren’t living…and you certainly aren’t content. Money doesn’t make people happy, but it makes every aspect of life easier, and opens you up to happiness. We discuss how any of us, no matter where we are financially, can pursue financial wellness to whatever level we want and we go over specific action plans for people drowning in debt, those simply looking to maintain their lifestyles, and anyone wanting to find the next big thing financially.See Privacy Policy at https://art19.com/privacy and California Privacy Notice at https://art19.com/privacy#do-not-sell-my-info.

Rob's Soapbox - A Dancing Bear, Monkeypox and a Child Felon
19/07/2021 Duração: 07minI’ve got something a little different for you this week; while prepping the upcoming week’s shows, a few stories caught my eye that I felt deserved a deeper “Rob-only” dive than the RAD show allows. So, without further ado:I’m all for defending cultures different than ours. Anytime some American gets on their high horse about how wrong other countries are for things like bullfighting, eating horse, and spending a week every summer running away from Bulls in Pamplona, I point out that those are cultural norms of historic proportion which have been around in the various countries that engage in them longer than the United States has been a country. Not to mention, we hardly have all of our problems and issues locked down here in America, and maybe we should focus on fixing ourselves first.Don’t get me wrong, speaking out about the fact that every year 25 million dogs are killed for food consumption is valiant, but it’s also a matter of perspective. While we view those 11 countries that account for 99% of those

Episode 9 - RAD pROBcast - Interview with Dawn's Husband Gary
16/07/2021 Duração: 01h39minThis week Dawn’s husband Gary, joins me at Williams Manor for a flight of Scotches as we discuss how he feels about the nickname “dumb-dumb,” what it’s like to actually live with Dawn, why both of our wives are so annoyed by our ongoing cell phone billiards tournament (including a demonstration of how the game works), and the dying art of knowing how to actually play a round of golf. We also talk about Queenie and Kyle, and end with a speed round of “greatests,” such as action movies, quarterbacks, and stand up comedians.See Privacy Policy at https://art19.com/privacy and California Privacy Notice at https://art19.com/privacy#do-not-sell-my-info.

Rob's Soapbox - Good News / Bad News
11/07/2021 Duração: 11minOne of my mentors and best friends taught me long ago to always lead with the bad news. “Bad news first,” he would say when I walked into his office (since I rarely came with good news, but that’s for another soapbox). I adopted that strategy in all facets of my life and it has served me well. However, it’s not great for showbiz, so we’re going to start with the good news. Driving to and from Las Vegas over summer vacation, spending almost a week there, and then spending lots of time in the greater Sacramento area going to dinners, lunches, and stores, there was a lot of good. Unfortunately, the good was basically breaking my self-imposed rule of celebrating normal. It IS good, though, to see seemingly so many people returning to life. In Vegas, maybe 25% of all people were wearing masks, and there was certainly no social distancing of any kind going on there. The casinos, bars, restaurants and strip itself were packed shoulder to shoulder. There was the odd store, like Louis Vuitton, who was s

Episode 8 - RAD pROBcast - Interview with Christina Williams
25/06/2021 Duração: 43minAs my wife, Christina, and I gear up for summer vacation in Las Vegas, we discuss a recent weekend road trip that opened our eyes to just how stir crazy, socially inept, and awkward people have become over the last year of isolation. In addition to people on the road seemingly transporting dead bodies and randomly stopping on freeway onramps, we also do a deep dive into the wonders of Central California, including two of its’ shiniest gems, Turlock and Modesto (and why we never need to be in that part of the state every again). If you need a little religion, there’s always the Vegan World Prayer, and we give a review of one of our favorite comedians, Bill Burr, and why he should stick with comedy and walk away from the podcasting.See Privacy Policy at https://art19.com/privacy and California Privacy Notice at https://art19.com/privacy#do-not-sell-my-info.

Episode 7 - RAD pROBcast - Chef Q from Restaurant Q1227
22/06/2021 Duração: 53minChef Q from restaurant Q1227 in Roseville, California joins me for a deep dive on how you go from being the youngest of 17 children birthed by his mom, to owning one of the hottest, most acclaimed, (and delicious) spots in Nor Cal. We discuss his time in the Navy, his passion for food, slimy okra, 42-ounce tomahawk rib-eyes, and how he navigated opening a restaurant just 3 months before Covid changed everything. We discuss the business side of motivating and holding employees accountable, how you build relationships with customers, and the difference between being a Black-owned business and a business owned by a Black man. Faith, Family and Food drive this man (in that order) and it shows…oh, yeah…and we find out what the Q stands for!See Privacy Policy at https://art19.com/privacy and California Privacy Notice at https://art19.com/privacy#do-not-sell-my-info.

Rob's Soapbox - And Speaking Of...
20/06/2021 Duração: 11minJuly 1st marks the halfway mark for 2021…which in and of itself is noteworthy since a year ago, it felt like it took decades to get this point. Suddenly, 2021 is moving at warp speed for many of us, which is a good thing, as it indicates a return to American normalcy, which we’re seeing from coast to coast. Parents are getting in fights on Little League fields, people are angry over cereal that celebrates Pride month, and the fact that it's 100 degrees in June is somehow news once again. See? Normal! America has resumed being angry, upset, and worried about stupid stuff rather than a pandemic, which is all good news. So why not take a moment to take stock of where we are, where we’ve been, and where we’re headed? After all, now that we don’t really have Covid to consume us (although many will make sure we still fear it for a long, long time), we can all turn our attention to the myriad of things wrong with the nation in each of our eyes. Remember that? Remember how, back in 2019, we would all bitch about stuf

Episode 6 - RAD pROBcast - Interview with Deputy Lacey Nelson
18/06/2021 Duração: 57minDeputy Lacey Nelson is back! After winning the hearts of RAD listeners over a year ago during her first on-air appearance for Law Enforcement Appreciation Day, Lacey returns with a ton of surprises! Other than that, not much is new; other than completion of her Master’s Degree with an eye on her doctorate, a burgeoning public speaking career, and being the Community Liaison for Paint Sacramento Pink, an organization that gives 100% of campaign donations directly to the women and men of Greater Sacramento who need assistance with breast cancer diagnosis and provide Treatment, Education, Support, and Awareness.See Privacy Policy at https://art19.com/privacy and California Privacy Notice at https://art19.com/privacy#do-not-sell-my-info.

Episode 163 - RAD Prodcast - Sexology with Lindsey from Sac In The Sheets
17/06/2021 Duração: 01h37sBrando interviews a sex blogger and aspiring Sexologist, Lindsey, and they discuss subjects ranging from the taboo, the disgusting, the uncomfortable, and the natural as it relates to sex and our society. Lindsey's blog at sacinthesheets.com provides resources, education, information and a place to discuss what no one wants to talk about... sex! Topics like cleaning sex toys, "leaky" vaginas, inclusive language like "vagina owners" and "penis owners", as well as how to bring up/discuss kinks with new sexual partners. Also, in the wake of the "Pride Cereal Box" debate, they touch on how to discuss sex with younger generations without stigmatizing or downplaying the seriousness at which it should be discussed (with trusted adults/parents/guardians of course). Additionally, Brando reveals instances of sexual abuse as adolescents and a listener of the Prodcast with a similar story asks for advice on how to navigate the topic of discussion of sexual exploration vs abuse with family members.&nbs

Rob's Soapbox - Stop Saying You Don't Have A Choice
13/06/2021 Duração: 08minAs America’s most populous state re-opens, it’s a good time for an instructive look at just how stupid, ignorant, arrogant, misinformed, and un-American too many Americans have become. On June 15th, California will lift almost all of its’ Covid-related restrictions, including its’ mask mandate. Which is odd, since I live in California and haven’t worn a mask inside a business since September of 2020 (with rare exceptions like taking parents to medical facilities). Do you know why that is? Because I had a choice…I could follow the rules imposed by the almighty government, or I could choose to live my life the way that I wanted to, and accept the consequences. As it turns out, there weren’t any consequences, ever…but I was fully prepared to leave a business that asked me to wear a mask because I had that choice. The business could choose to tell me I had to wear a mask in order to shop, and I could choose to not shop there. See…choices? We all have them.Which brings us to the vaccine, and an asinine and disturbi

Episode 5 - RAD pROBcast - Interview with Christina Williams
11/06/2021 Duração: 55minThis week, my wife Christina and I discuss the spiciness and racial identity of Sprite soda, Kyle being a creep, how many people we’d invite to a party today that were also at our wedding party just 3 years ago, toxic masculinity, her scatterbrain, Christina’s recently found green thumb (which includes an appearance on the video of one of our large plants), and our reaction to a neighborhood punk-child and his equally ridiculous parents. Oh, and of course, masks.See Privacy Policy at https://art19.com/privacy and California Privacy Notice at https://art19.com/privacy#do-not-sell-my-info.

Rob's Soapbox - America's Next 9/11
06/06/2021 Duração: 10minWe knew 9/11 was coming. Eight months prior to the attacks of September 11, 2001, something called the Hart-Rudman report was issued which spelled out explicitly the likeliness of the events of what would ultimately occur, and it was almost universally ignored by all. Most elected officials that the report was written for never read it, and the media barely mentioned it. The most prominent story on it was a blurb on page 23 of the New York Times in early 2001. https://www.aspeninstitute.org/wp-content/uploads/files/content/docs/pubs/jsp-Alarms-Unheeded.pdf We knew 9/11 was coming and we did nothing. We didn’t take it seriously, and we didn’t change a thing that could have prevented it, even though we had several choices, and the report made a myriad of recommendations. And all of us are to blame, because Americans, writ large, waved away such a suggestion as absurd and arrogantly suggested nothing like that could ever happen. We are about to repeat our history, with much graver results. We
