  • School is Starting: How to help teachers in your area today

    15/08/2012 Duração: 45min

Can you smell the sweetness of pencil lead, sharpie markers and fresh paper for binders?  I am past those days as my children are adults however as a parent, those days of waiting for the back to school sales still rings my alarm and I love to see what is available each year. While these seem to be great days for some parents, it can cause distress for single parents or teachers who cannot find extra money to purchase items required for students. My guest, Barbara Blalock of Treasures 4 Teachers, has resources for educators and students throughout Arizona.  They actively seek out and collect unwanted, but reusable, materials throughout the community and make them available to teachers free and at very low cost.  The materials come from various sources:  manufacturers, businesses, other non-profit agencies and private donations.  The program also gives back to single parents of Arizona State University who have children and adopt them to supply items for back to school. Yes, you too can start a program like th

  • What is in my water? Drinking water and home source update

    10/08/2012 Duração: 44min

Your drinking water:  Is it safe?  What does that really mean? I have SO been waiting to have this guest on my show as the topic of clean water is so close to home for me.  I do know what is in the water, I know what should not be in the water and now my guest, Igor Milevskiy, of Pure Effect Filters will tell us how to get the important items out of our water.  Pure Effect Filters is a US based water filter company that has developed some of the only filters of their kind that can filter out both:  radioisotopes and fluoride, as well as:  heavy metals, chlorine and a host of other contaminants.  Filtration can be done from the kitchen tap to the entire house all while raising the alkaline ph and using no electricity.  Drinking water standards have been under fire in other countries recently with many countries deciding what limits they want to have on their bottled drinking water.  You know that she-she water you drink?  What is in it?  Ha, so you think! The WorldHealthOrganization has limits as do many other

  • Why Immuno-Viva Products? Why not?

    09/08/2012 Duração: 30min

Vitamins and supplements are a billion dollar industry.  Do you know what to look for when selecting a product for you?  Do you know what you don't want in your product?  Why not? My guest will be Mark Mueller, the founder of Botanic Innovations and Immuno-Viva.  Immuno-Viva products are natural supplements that have all encompassing immune support.  They supply Essential Fatty Acids AND extensive antioxidant activity AND phytosterols.  Yes, I know what you think... another product!  Well, I would beg to differ.  I have been taking supplements for over thirty years.  Many would make me sick, some never dissolve in my body, some caused allergies and still others were a total waste of money and propaganda. This product line...... perfect.  I will tell you, I have significant allergies and wanted to try the pure oil prior to purchasing.  I asked the company for a sample of the oil and used it on my skin for a few days, no rash.  I then put a few drops into my drink, no digestive issues.  At that time, I started

  • Things you must know before sending your kids off to college

    28/07/2012 Duração: 30min

Do you have kids, excuse me, young adults going off to college this fall?  There are many things you would have never considered to think about as they just never entered your mind.  I will be sharing the pitfalls and stumbling blocks I encountered in dealing with colleges and kids in school.  You know those papers the college has the student sign about letting you, the parent know anything?  I would suggest you think again and have a discussion with your young adult before signing them.  Drugs, booze, sex issues, confidentiality, mental stress and non responsive young adults are potentially dangerous when left out on their own.  While we may thing we gave them all the tools, think again.  School is a thousand times different than when you as the parent went, so please do not put your experiences out there for the young adult to emulate.  Alcohol is no longer just beer, it is anti depressants and EverClear.  Really!! Tune in, if you can't, listen to the archives.  If you can identify with the need to know mor

  • What is Healthy Food and why should I even care?

    21/07/2012 Duração: 30min

Healthy food:  what is it and what is it not?  Can you tell the difference?  With all the hype about adding vegetables and fruits to your diet do you know the best choices?  Many people are doing the good, better, best choices but are they really making a difference in our health? What are the sources of food that give us the healthy benefits we think we are getting when we eat the vegetables and fruits? Why just opening a can, eating at the restaurant, or opening up a bag may not be the answer.  Are you fooling yourself?  or is the food industry and gurus fooling you?

  • How are senior helped in your area to stay in their homes?

    18/07/2012 Duração: 27min

My guest is Bruce Otto who is the Executive Director of H.O.M.E. for seniors in Chicago.  They were recently featured on the Secret Millionaire show on television. I was drawn to H.O.M.E. for their humanitarian help for seniors.  They help low income seniors maintain their independence by providing free upkeep and home repair, free shopping bus and affordable housing. How are seniors helping in your area?  I know in my area, the elderly or health challenged are left to their own means.  While there may be public programs, access does not always mean a completion to the end product, helping the people directly and seeing the results. H.O.M.E. has verifiable and beautiful results, happy and safe people in the areas they serve.  We will be talking about how you can potentially start this type of service in your area.  I know it is an up hill battle, but there are people who can do this work and it is time to step up.  The program does accept donations in many forms so please visit their website for more informat

  • Community gardens start up and growing organic tips

    13/06/2012 Duração: 28min

My guest will be Bo Cable of the Generous Garden Project in South Carolina.  We will be talking about community gardens; how they get started and who they serve.  There are so many gardens starting around the country but only a select few have the goal of serving people in need with healthy food.  It is great to grow an organic food line but if the people who would greatly benefit from that food cannot purchase it, then what is the humanitarian purpose.  The goal of this project is to not only provide food but also to share the process for others to grow and provide food.  A true spider web is evolving.  Have land that is available for growing, farm supplies you can donate, or a need to help others, this is the show to find out how to put it all together.  "The Generous Garden Project is a 501 (c)(3) nonprofit organization founded in 2011 to fill a need for fresh produce in order to provide a healthy alternative to boxed and canned foods to the hungry.  At the Garden, we not only want to provide food, but als

  • Healthcare concerns: before and after a natural disaster

    04/05/2012 Duração: 30min

Healthcare concerns, we all have them.  No one is perfectly healthy and no one can say they will not need support services after a natural disaster, you just never know. How can you prepare for earth events if you have healthcare concerns that require special equipment or medications?  Do you even recognize you may need help?  It can be something as simple as placing medication in a dry cool place, but post a summer storm, the heat and sun are the norm, not air conditioning.  It can also be a sleep machine that you use every night and when the power goes out, the machine does not work.  Umm, think you are prepared? As the warning for storms may give you time to prepare and compile all your medical needs, there are storms that are instant.  Also, does having a stockpile of medical items make you feel safe?  We will talk about various healthcare concerns and what you should think about.  Callers can ask medical specific questions to form a plan of safety, regardless of the event.

  • Leaving or returning home after a natural disaster, can you?

    28/04/2012 Duração: 30min

After a natural disaster, the police or other government enforcement will have the perimeters drawn around affected areas.  While many believe this to be good the first few hours, many others will start to rebel as they believe they have the right to go to their business or home.  Is this safe?  Are they protected?  Who is watching the bank?  And, why can't I go to my house, 'it has electric'? We will talk about all the things that could go wrong and what the normal patterns are after a natural disaster.  Many times if a local entity of government did not have a plan in place prior to an event there may be chaos or over ruling policies that are put into place. Do you know what to do ten minutes after a natural disaster has passed?  The more you know or have heard before, the better your instincts will be if you find yourself in a natural disaster area.  How do I know who to listen to after a disaster?  Where do I go or do I even go? How will your life be disrupted if you are in the center of a natural disaste

  • Natural disasters, are you ready?? What does that mean?

    20/04/2012 Duração: 30min

Natural disasters seem to be occurring every month somewhere in the United States.  Have you been affected?  Have you worried about the storms and what you would do?  OR Have you just looked at the news and noticed the events playing out?  An event seems to not be of concern to people and businesses these days unless they have a direct hit.  What comes next?  Aftermath.  You do have the ability to prepare for disasters in some areas of your life.  We will talk about a few simple things that can be done to lessen your heart aches after any earth event.  Also, while it may be great for some areas to have stockpiles, that is not the norm in other areas.  Do you know what you should or should not do in your area? How do you prepare your small business or how have you been prepared as an employee?  Missing anything in your plan? How does your healthcare become affected in natural disaster events?  Think you are safe and protected?  Think again. Callers are welcome to share their experiences and ask questions of Dr

    30/08/2011 Duração: 29min

As we have found out with hurricane Katrina, many volunteers come in droves to help when they see the need played out on the television.  We will be discussing how to make an informed choice when considering to help.  There are many concerns that have shown up several years after volunteering and should be evaluated prior to signing up.  Make an informed decision to volunteer.

  • Hurricane Irene Preparations

    28/08/2011 Duração: 29min

I will take questions from anyone who does not feel they are prepared for Hurricane Irene.  I can also answer small business, medical/dental/ professionals, and other questions that may be unanswered by the media or you just do not know what to do.  It is very important to do all that you feel you could, because after a storm, those that were complacint may have issues that tear apart businesses and families.  I can discuss preparations before the storm, shelters and what to expect, and aftermath.  I have experience with hurricanes, namely the big one, Katrina, when I was unable to evacuate due to a medical emergency.  Ask what you are afraid of and perhaps we can find a direction for you.
