Clare Children Reportedly Being "Warehoused" By The State Due To Unsuitable Child Protection
05/11/2024 Duração: 10minChildren in this region are reportedly being "warehoused" by the State as the appropriate care isn't in place. A new report compiled by the Child Law Project entitled 'Falling Through the Cracks' has shone a light on the failings of child protection in Ireland, identifying shortages in both foster and residential care placements and labelling the HSE's response to children with issues such as mental health as "dismal". It's led to calls for a new national strategy on child protection involving a new placement model of high support for children with complex needs as well as those at risk of exploitation or trafficking. Executive Director of the Child Law Project and Adjunct Professor of Law at University of Galway School of Law Dr Carol Coulter claims vulnerable children are being placed in entirely unsuitable settings in many case.

Inagh Green Deputy Leader Says Social Media Companies Can't Be Trusted To Monitor Abuse
05/11/2024 Duração: 19minA Clare Government senator says she has no faith in social media companies to regulate abuse and incitement to hatred online. It comes as a 45-year-old Dublin man has pleaded guilty to assaulting Green Party leader Roderic O'Gorman over the weekend which is just the latest in a string of attacks on politicians in recent months. A survey conducted by University College Dublin earlier this year found that some 94% of politicians and 72% of political staff have encountered some form of threat, harrassment or violence during the course of their work. Inagh-based Green Party Deputy Leader Senator Róisín Garvey claims she's reported death threats on social media before but to no avail.

Omission Of West Clare Projects From Large Scale Sports Funding "A Kick In The Teeth"
05/11/2024 Duração: 05minIt's claimed West Clare has missed out on an economic and social gamechanger following the omission of two major projects from a government funding programme. It's after grant applications for a 1,700m indoor sports facility in Kilrush as well as a diving and snorkelling centre of excellence for the Kilkee Sub Aqua Club were both unsuccessful in the latest round of the Large Scale Sports Infrastructure Fund. Although the scheme's assessment criteria prioritises deprived areas, Kilrush was not included despite being recognised as the most disadvantaged settlement in Clare by state agency Pobal. Kilrush Independent Councillor Ian Lynch says tackling regional imbalance in the county must become an election issue.

Dr Nolan was a prominent campaigner against the HSE's reconfiguration which closed Accident and Emergency Units in Ennis, Nenagh and St.John's in 2009 and claims there's still a case to be answered as to how it was handled. Shannonwatch Dismisses Government Weapons Search Plans As "Cynical" Electioneering
05/11/2024 Duração: 03minShannonwatch has dismissed new government proposals to conduct spot checks of foreign aircraft suspected of carrying weapons through Irish airspace, which are due before cabinet today, as a cynical pre-election move. An inquiry by the Department of Transport in September determined up to nine flights either chartered by Israeli munitions companies or carrying arms destined for Israel flew over the country. Between January and June, 163 weapons exemptions were granted to US soldiers departing Shannon Airport on civil aircraft, which has also been a point of contention at mass anti-war protests at the facility this year. Shannonwatch Founder and former UN Peacekeeper Edward Horgan says the state could simply terminate this agreement if it's serious about taking action.

General Election Candidate Claims Clare People Need Education On Wind Energy
05/11/2024 Duração: 22minA General Election candidate believes many Clare people are objecting to wind turbines being erected near their homes due to a lack of education. Ennis-based Renewable Energy Engineer Amanda Major has announced she'll be running as an Independent in the upcoming General Election which will be her first attempt at securing a Dáil seat. The former Green Party and Fianna Fáil member has previously been a non-party candidate in the Local Elections in 2019 and most recently in June of this year when she received just over 3% of first preference votes. She believes if people here were more informed on the environment and the importance of renewable energy, they'd be less hostile to local developments.
