Sinopse

In this American podcast about an American musical about a bastard orphan, I (your host Gillian Pensavalle) talk to my co-hosts and guests about all things Hamilton including how it brings people together, how we find Ham references in everyday life, and the general brilliance of the show: from cast, crew, and creatives involved in the production, to the minds behind some of the best social media accounts inspired by Hamilton, to teachers who use the music to get their students excited about history, and everything in between. The discussion of Ron Chernow's "Alexander Hamilton" starts in episode three. If you're interested, please feel free to read along with us; we'll be going chapter-by-chapter and provide detailed and reference-heavy outlines for each #Cherpter. But there's no pressure! There's plenty to talk about and this is not a super serious history class. When I started this podcast in January of 2016, I could not have imagined the incredible community that has built around the show and the amazing experiences that have come my way. Thank you to everyone who has listened, appeared on the show, contributed, or reached out in any way. This podcast for you and I absolutely love making it.If you have any great Ham stories or funny references you've come across, let me know! I love hearing about things like that. Email TheHamilcast [at] gmail [dot] com, or contact me on social media @TheHamilcast.I have the honor to be your obedient servant,G.Pen

  • #82: Ask anybody why we livin’ fast and we laugh, reach for a flask, we have to make this moment last...

    21/08/2017 Duração: 40min

Raise a glass, friends! Welcome to another Emergency Podcast System. This week, Mike (you know Mike) and our friend and history enthusiast Ted O'Gorman help me recap August 12th's #HamiltonHappyHour, which was Ted's introduction to Hamilton and the Hamilton community. In case you missed it, Patrick Hinds of the Theater People Podcast, Broadway Backstory, and True Crime Obsessed hopped behind the bar with me and we hosted the #HamFam and sang the entire Hamilton cast album in New York City, the greatest city in the world. We had the best time and raised a ton of money for charity. It was also a much needed night of love, support, and community after the country endured what Mike described as a "James Reynolds kinda week." After the Happy Hour, Ted went home and re-listened to the entire album so we also talk about his first impressions of Hamilton (spoiler: he loved it) and get super nerdy about history pop culture with things like 1776 and The West Wing. PS: #HamiltonHappyHour is now a thing and Patrick and I

  • #81: ...I promise myself to realize the sweet enjoyment of partaking...

    14/08/2017 Duração: 32min

Bryan Terrell Clark (George Washington in Hamilton on Broadway) was kind enough to invite me to his dressing room to hang out on a very busy two show day! Spoiler alert: things get real emotional real quick as BTC tells me about how his first time singing "One Last Time" was when President Barack Obama was giving his Farewell Speech in Chicago. Bryan gives beautiful insight to GDubbs, explains why he could never be a swing/cover/understudy (but why he has the utmost respect for them!), and how he keeps himself G.Wash-ready.  President Barack Obama's Farewell Speech Bryan's t-shirt company inDEFINED

James Monroe Iglehart is a kind, funny, generous, amazing bolt of energy and I am so proud to say that he is my guest this week. Fan favorite Ashley Graffeo is my co-host, making this episode extra special. James told us what it's like to play Lafayette/Jefferson in Hamilton on Broadway, how the role compares to his Tony winning portrayal of Genie in Aladdin, meeting the Freestyle Love Supreme crew, the wonderful night that was The American Songbook performance at Lincoln Center (he played Hercules Mulligan!), and he even gives us a never-before-heard Burr's Corner. Plus, we talk about The Muppets, The Blues Brothers, Unbreakable Kimmy Schmidt, and more!    James Iglehart sings "I'm Going To Go Back There Someday" https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=QZZjphU6hV0   Live at Feinstein's/54 Below: James Monroe Iglehart Sings "When You Wish Upon a Star" https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=SY3ABsBsqG0   Lin-Manuel Miranda and James Monroe Iglehart sing “My Shot” at Lincoln Center’s American Songbook in 2012 https://www.yout

Universal Swing Hope Endrenyi stops by and we had so much fun! Hope tells us how booking Hamilton was full of surprises, what it's like traveling between all three companies (the word "vagabond" was used), and why she loves the Sons of Liberty. Plus, Hope gives us excellent tips on what we can do to help the environment and how to live a more sustainable lifestyle.

  • #78: I need someone like you to lighten the load

    24/07/2017 Duração: 36min

Kimberly "Kimmie" Mark was gracious enough to invite me to the Richard Rodgers Theatre to tell me all about what it's like to be what is known as a Star Dresser on Broadway for 19 years, dressing stars like Alan Cumming, Raul Esparza, and Leslie Odom Jr. (who brought her to Hamilton). Currently, Kimmie dresses George Washington and Aaron Burr and is easily one of the nicest, coolest people in the world. Take a listen and learn all about how Kimmie became a dresser, tons of behind-the-scenes details about Hamilton, why being assigned to Leslie Odom Jr. was a "dream come true," and how she hasn't actually SEEN Hamilton. 26/06/2017 Duração: 35min

Gregory Treco is in the room where the podcast happens, friends! As the cover for Burr/Washington (and now Lafayette/Jefferson!) in Hamilton on Broadway, Gregory has a unique perspective on the roles and tells us why they are equally challenging and rewarding. We also get some fun details like how G.Wash's sword has a mind of its own, how one scene in The Room Where It Happens occurs three times (I KNOW), and the sage advice he got from his very dear friend Leslie Odom Jr. Oh, and Gregory and Gillian share a mutual love of Your Obedient Servant, so that's fun!

  • #69: Your lieutenant when there’s reckoning to be reckoned // Part Two

    22/05/2017 Duração: 30min

Anthony Lee Medina is back for another round tonight and we covered so much ground, it's crazy. Anthony tells us what it's like to die 16 times a week as Laurens/Philip on Broadway, how he did the role while battling E. coli (for real!), and our plans for a #HamPrayLove tour to see every single cast member perform every single track in every production of Hamilton. That shouldn't be too hard, right? Anthony also gushes over fellow cast members and describes how his world has been turned upside down since joining Hamilton.

  • #68: Your lieutenant when there’s reckoning to be reckoned // Part One

    15/05/2017 Duração: 37min

I said shout it to the roofTOPS! Anthony Lee Medina (John Laurens/Philip Hamilton in Hamilton on Broadway) is on the show this - and next - week! In the first part of our chat we do a quick recap of Gillian seeing Hamilton the night the incomparable Donald Webber debuted as Lafayette/Jefferson, and Anthony tells us what that was like behind the scenes. Anthony also talks backstage pranks (again! so many pranks with this crew!), being a self proclaimed Hamilton "reference box," and insight into playing John Laurens and Philip Hamilton. And we may or may not go on a Madonna tangent... Okay, yeah, we totally do.

  • #67: You sent the dogs after my scent, that's fine

    08/05/2017 Duração: 44min

We're bringing back two listener favorites this week: A discussion of Ron Chernow's Alexander Hamilton and Amber Kempter of Broadway Goes Pop!. Amber tells us about her trip to New York City and joins us as we dive into Cherpter 22: "Stabbed in the Dark." The hurricane is closing in on Alexander Hamilton and in addition to seeing more hatred from Thomas Jefferson aka Regina George, we also get a small glimpse into Ham's rivalry with Aaron Burr (sir). But mostly, we learn about how the haters tried to bring Hamilton down but he always seemed to come out on the up and up... for now.  Our Patreon page: https://www.patreon.com/TheHamilcast Notes for Chapter 22: http://www.thehamilcast.com/wp-content/uploads/2017/04/Chapter-22-Stabbed-in-the-Dark.pdf Amber's first appearance on The Hamilcast: http://www.thehamilcast.com/episode-57-she-plants-seeds-in-the-ground-she-creates/ Broadway Goes Pop! The kiki continues, y'all! Javier Muñoz is still hanging out and we're joined by listener favorite Ashley Graffeo! This week we're getting into Javi's activism, how he deals with haters and trolls on Twitter, and we rewiiiind to the beauty of Javi's Cafecito! From the days of the Original Broadway Cast of Hamilton! And yes, we still reference *NSYNC and Destiny's Child and take even more questions from our Patreon Supporters! It's fun.  PS: For reference, here is the question Ashley's student asked Javi: “I just want to say that I really enjoyed your performance of Hamilton, which I was lucky enough to see, and my question is: so many roles on Broadway are dedicated to people who don’t look like us, so… did you always want to be on Broadway and did you ever imagine yourself playing a role like this?"

Javier Muñoz is here! Yes, for real! This episode is packed, you guys.
