Kevin starts the episode by updating everyone on the recent CBA proposal MLB made to the Players Association. MLB took its first crack at negotiating on the "core economic" issues that are currently the reason for the lockout. The player's response to the initial proposal is said to be "disappointing" and the two sides seem to be nowhere closer to reaching an agreement. Kevin then breaks down one player from each team who could be the next breakout star in 2022. Every year there is a prospect or two who seemingly come out of nowhere to take MLB by storm. Kevin gives a player from each organization who could fit this bill for the 2022 season. Kevin wraps up the show by giving a recap of the biggest international signings that took place over the weekend. The biggest deal that was given was just south of 5 million by the Washington Nationals. He also discusses the retirement of Fransisco Liriano after 14 years in the big leauges. Patrick also covers the retiring of Melky Cabrera in this segment. Patrick covers his stats, issues with steroids, and what he meant to Patrick. Following that Patrick talks about Gil Hodges. Hodges had an amazing career and hit the most home runs by a right-handed hitter in history until he would be surpassed by Willie Mays. We know approximately 42% of the ballots and how they are voting and right now David Ortiz, Barry Bonds, and Roger Clemens would have enough support to be enshrined in Cooperstown. It will be interesting to see if this continues with the non-public ballots. Kevin then discusses the announcement of Jon Lester retiring after 16 seasons. Lester had a tremendous career, winning three World Series Championships. Two with Boston and one with Chicago. Kevin then gives an update on multiple coaching staff across baseball who are continuing to finalize their choices. Eric Chavez is the new Mets hitting coach after being with the Yankees for about 3 weeks. The A's have brought in Brad Hosmus to be a bench coach and a veteran on the staff. Patrick is back with a packed episode that flies by! Patrick opens the show by talking about the MLB Network deciding not to renew Ken Rosenthal's contract with the company after 12 years. The issue is that Rosenthal appears to have been let go due to Rosenthal's criticism of MLB Commissioner Rob Manfred. Kevin starts the episode by discussing Shohei Ohtani being named AP Male Athlete of the Year. Ohtani makes history once again by becoming the first male winner from Japan. Kevin then talks about the surprising news of Kyle Seager's retirement. Seager put together a very solid career with the Mariners and is only 34 years old. Kevin next gives his Way-To-Early Predictions for the 2022 season. Kevin predicts the White Sox, Rays, and Astros will be the division winners in the American League, while in the National League the Dodgers, Braves, and Brewers will be division champions. For years now, mostly the last three, baseball fans have pondered which All-MLB to win in a series. Patrick takes this hypothetical and takes the rosters of the 2020 and the 2021 All-MLB teams and pins them against each other. In this battle of supremacy, Patrick goes through both lineups and reads why each player deserved to be there. Unfortunately, the site that Patrick uses to make this content does not allow for the DH so the abilities of Shohei Ohtani and Nelson Cruze are very limited. This series is insane going all 7 games. Patrick has not even been convinced the better team of the 2 won. This series is full of series saving hits, amazing pitching performances, and big leads that evaporate in less than an inning.
