Amit Bhatia, CEO of the Global Steering Group for Impact Investment and the British Council’s Dr Mairi Mackay, were both keynote speakers at Good Deals and Beyond Good Business, the UK’s leading social enterprise conference, which took place in London, in March 2018. Amit and Mairi took time out from the event to speak to Pioneers Post’s Julie Pybus about the power of private capital to tackle social issues, the role of creativity in building a purposeful economy and why millennials might be a big sign of hope for the social impact movement... The so-called "Arab Awakening" spread to Egypt on 25 January 2011. Seventeen days later, the country's dictator President Mubarak resigned from office. It was a monumental moment in history – but it marked the beginning, not the end, of Egypt's journey to democracy and stability. Two and half years on the country finds itself under the stewardship of an increasingly controlling theocracy and has reached an economic nadir.
