Can You Fix My Sleep?
20/07/2020 Duração: 16minThe other day I was asked, "If I read your book, will it fix my sleep?" so this episode is about the frustrating questions I’m asked as a sleep coach, why it’s impossible to fix people’s sleep during a thirty-second conversation, and the advice I would give these people if they actually stayed in the conversation long enough to hear my answers. My book, The Calm & Cozy Book of Sleep, is out soon! My Response to a Critical Review
11/07/2020 Duração: 11minA reviewer made a comment about my book (after reading an advance digital copy) that I believe was meant to be critical and a little sarcastic. I’m okay with criticism because I understand that not everyone is gonna like me. I’m also okay with sarcasm because everything I say is dripping with it. The comment made me laugh at the time, but days later, I can’t let it go. There’s a part of me that agrees with what she said and I have to talk it out. This episode is a direct response to that negative review, and it might surprise you to hear that I agree with what was said. Listen to the full episode to hear why. And then go find my book, The Calm & Cozy Book of Sleep, on Amazon! Here's where you can buy the book:https://www.sleepcoachbeth.com/thebookofsleepHere's where you can register for the book club/coaching group: https://www.sleepcoachbeth.com/the-book-club See acast.com/privacy for privacy and opt-out information.

From a Night Owl to an Early Bird
19/05/2020 Duração: 09minThe term chronotype is used to characterize your natural sleep-wake cycle and sleep patterns. It determines whether you’re a night owl or an early bird or something else. Your chronotype is based on your biology and genetic makeup, and it is said that because we’re born with it, it cannot be changed. I want to challenge the idea that you are stuck with the chronotype you have been born with if you feel it is no longer serving you. This episode goes deeper into what the four chronotypes are, and how I went from a functioning night owl to an early bird, and why I'm happier for it.Learn more and pre-order my new book at www.sleepcoachbeth.com See acast.com/privacy for privacy and opt-out information.

Dealing with Bedtime Stressors
19/03/2020 Duração: 16minThis episode is about the bedtime stressors that plague us at night, and how to deal with them. Because I have struggled with many types of bedtime anxiety and racing thoughts, I have put together some "bedtime mantras" for you to repeat to yourself when you're lying in bed worrying about things you can and can't control. Here is that list, but listen to the episode to hear the story of the time I thought there was a murderer in the basement.1: Tomorrow is taken care of, tonight I can rest.2: They are safe and happy.3: Thank you for all that I have. I am so blessed.4: May I be happy. May I be well. May I be safe. May I be peaceful and at ease.6: I am safe and loved. I'm fine. See acast.com/privacy for privacy and opt-out information.

A Chat About Mom Sleep
23/09/2019 Duração: 40minThis episode is the first of its kind on The CALM+COZY Podcast - An in-person interview recorded while on vacation in Abbotsford, British Columbia.Who can go from being a heavy sleeper her whole life to hearing her child tiptoe across her bedroom floor? A mom of two young girls, of course! My cousin, Laura, has an in-person chat with me about how her sleep has changed since pregnancy, and how being a mom of a two year old and a five year old changes everything, even a 30+ year sleep routine. Even if you don't have kids, I think you'll still enjoy this conversation with one of my favorite relatives. Laura and I talk about where our love for naps comes from, our favorite sleep stories from when we were kids, and other sleep-related topics. Living w/ Narcolepsy (ft. Julie Flygare of Project Sleep)
09/07/2019 Duração: 52minThis episode is part of my sleep disorder series, and I’ve been looking forward to this interview for a while. I met Julie Flygare online, through our Instagram accounts and a mutual interest in sleep. Julie is the founder of Project Sleep and an advocate for people living with narcolepsy. Before meeting Julie and reading her book, I didn’t know anything about narcolepsy. I thought it was what most of us think - falling asleep suddenly without any control of where you are or what you’re doing. Narcolepsy is very misunderstood, and not all that rare, and that’s why I wanted to have Julie tell her story. You can find Julie on Instagram as @remrunner, Project Sleep's website at: https://project-sleep.com, and the Narcolepsy Not Alone campaign at: http://www.narcolepsynotalone.com/A HUGE Thank you to this episode's sponsor, Zenbev, a natural drink mix that promotes sleep by easing anxiety and racing thoughts. My Surprising Sleep Study Results
11/06/2019 Duração: 12minThis episode is kind of the third in my sleep study series. The first part of my story is episode 48, when I talk about my excessive daytime sleepiness, the symptoms I’ve struggled with for 20+ years, and how I got referred to a sleep clinic. Episode 49 is about my overnight sleep study and how weird it is to be covered in wires while a stranger watches you sleep through a tiny camera. This episode, 52, is about my follow-up appointment with the sleep doctor, and the results of the sleep study. My results were both expected and unexpected. It turns out I have a sleep disorder, just not the one I would have ever guessed!Thank you to this episode's sponsor, Endy, the great Canadian mattress! www.endy.com See acast.com/privacy for privacy and opt-out information.

The Perfect Mattress
03/06/2019 Duração: 18minThis episode is about how to tell if it’s time for a new mattress and how to choose a mattress that’s perfect for you. It’s funny that it took me 51 episodes to cover this topic because a good mattress is pretty important. We don’t usually pay attention to what we’re sleeping on until it all goes terribly wrong. In this episode, I also share my honest 100-night Endy review so you can hear what it's like to sleep on a mattress that doesn't have a permanent body-sized dent in the centre of it. Endy is a Canadian-made memory foam mattress that uses CertiPur-US certified foam, and is shipped for free to anywhere in Canada. Exercise & Sleep
14/05/2019 Duração: 17minIn this episode, I’m going to cover the ways exercise improves sleep, the benefits of working out in the morning, and finding exercise you actually enjoy. I want to make sure you know that I’m not here to make you feel judged about any of these topics.I know firsthand that adopting a regular exercise routine is not as easy as the fit girls on Instagram make it look. I’ve struggled for years and years to fit exercise into my daily life. So while I’m telling you all the connections between physical activity and sleep, I’m also going to talk to you about the real stuff. See acast.com/privacy for privacy and opt-out information.

I Spent A Night In A Sleep Clinic
29/04/2019 Duração: 12minIn episode 48 you would have heard me talk about my history with excessive daytime sleepiness, and wanting to find out why I could take three naps a day even though I was sleeping well at night. I spoke to my doctor, and she referred me to have a sleep study done. A few weeks ago, I went in to a local sleep clinic to have an overnight sleep study, and this episode is about my experience. When Needing A Nap Becomes A Problem
15/04/2019 Duração: 15minIt has been said by many sleep professionals that midday naps are healthy. Most people hit a bit of a wall around 1 or 2 in the afternoon. A short nap can improve memory, focus and creativity. If you need a little pick-me-up in the afternoon, and a power nap does it for you, you are not alone. But what happens if one nap just doesn’t cut it? What if you need to sleep for hours during the day to feel normal? When does napping become a problem?I tackle these questions in this episode because I'm going through the same questions myself. I'm a champion napper, but is that a good thing? Does being sleepy all day even though I sleep 7.5-8 hours every night mean something's not quite right? I'll tell you about my own experience with Excessive Daytime Sleepiness, and talk about the differences between fatigue and feeling sleepy. You can rate your own sleepiness by taking the Epworth Sleepiness Test here: http://healthysleep.med.harvard.edu/narcolepsy/diagnosing-narcolepsy/epworth-sleepiness-scale See acast.com/privacy
