Treat Yourself Like You'd Treat Your BFF!
21/05/2018 Duração: 09minThis week's episode is a vulnerable one. I'm opening up about my rocky journey to motherhood and how it's taught me about the paradox of emotions. Just because you feel a "negative" emotion, it doesn't mean that the opposite isn't also true. Two totally different, big emotions can co-exist and that's ok. I'm sharing how I am learning to create space for all the emotions that show up for me and how I'm finding a little more compassion for myself when they do. Say "Hell Yes" to Yourself!
07/05/2018 Duração: 06minIf you’re like me, you probably agree that self-care is something worth prioritizing. It’s been a focus for me lately and I realize that the more I take care of myself, the more I have to give others. But I’ve been grappling with what self-care actually looks like in practice. Recently though, I had an epiphany when I realized that self-care is connected to some choices I’m making about how I spend my time. Do you find yourself saying yes to things when you'd really rather be saying no? Do you tend to make other people and their requests more important than your own priorities? If you answered yes to these questions, I'm totally with you. So in this week’s episode of the podcast, I’m sharing a couple strategies I’m using to check in about what I really want. It’s not easy, but I’m working on making myself and my feelings a priority. Take a listen and let me know what you think. Do you have another strategy for prioritizing your time and your needs? I'd love to know. This is a work in progress and I'd lov

Be a Joy Detective!
23/04/2018 Duração: 07minIs the stress and heavy weight of the work that you're doing overshadowing what you love about your job? Are you feeling like you could use a little more joy in your life right about now? I was answering a definitive yes to both of those questions when I first came up with this strategy. I knew what I had to do to make a change and knew that if it was to be it was up to me. In this episode, I share with you how I made the shift to look for and create more joy at work. I learned an important lesson - if I want to feel happier at work or in any situation, I've got to make it my mission to find it! For the complete show notes and more, visit personalpeptalk.com

Find Your Feet!
09/04/2018 Duração: 04minWondering what to do when your head starts spinning about something that has yet to come? When I’m feeling antsy or worried about something that hasn’t happened yet, I remind myself: Find your feet. Be where they are. It’s a super awesome, incognito strategy - no one would suspect that I’m re-centering myself when I use this strategy. It’s my own private moment that I take for myself to find some peace. Emotional Campfire
26/03/2018 Duração: 06minIt was almost eight years ago now that I realized I had totally lost touch with some big emotions. Back then, if I was feeling sad or angry or disillusioned and you asked me to name the feeling I was experiencing, I would have had a tough time. I could feel a pressure in my chest. I could feel the physiological effect it was having on my body, but I couldn’t name it. I had worked so hard at pushing those “bad” feelings down, I was like a boiling tea kettle about to pop. I started using the strategy I talk about in this episode, emotional campfire, to help me embrace and accept the wide range of emotions I experience as I navigate life. Like Dan Siegel says: You’ve got to name it to tame it! For the complete show notes and more, visit www.personalpeptalk.com

Just Notice It!
12/03/2018 Duração: 05minFeeling like you need a serious boost in patience? This is my go-to strategy when I’m in a situation where something or someone is about to make me lose my cool. Rather than engage with the thing and continue to focus on the fact that I’m in pain or annoyed, I choose to “just notice it.” It’s not always easy, but the pay off is huge. You Are Not Responsible For My Joy!
26/02/2018 Duração: 06minThis is a relationship game changer! I’m pretty sure that this strategy is why Eric and I are now so happily married. This strategy is all about shifting my attention and focus from outside of myself to me. When I feel myself looking to another person to feel good (my husband, a student, a colleague, a family member) I notice it and start to make this critical shift. Rather than making my happiness dependent on another person’s decisions and actions, I’ve decided to make choices for me and to focus instead on making myself happy. If it’s to be, it’s up to me! I’m pushing myself way outside of my comfort zone by starting this podcast, so of course, my limiting beliefs about myself are coming in for the attack.
