Barry Bishop has served as Executive Vice President of the Greater Norfolk Corporation since 1993 and represents GNC on a number of city task forces, including the Downtown Roundtable, Downtown Forum, and the Elizabeth River Trail Committee. Mensah Bey is a native of Richmond, VA residing in Norfolk, VA. He received his Bachelor of Arts in Graphic Design from Hampton University and his Master of Fine Arts in Visual Studies from Norfolk State University. As an illustrator, painter, and printmaker, Bey explores the digital realm as a commentary on contemporary society. His graphic, hard-edged style is reminiscent of the works of Aaron Douglass Jacob Lawrence. Nastassja Swift is a visual artist holding a Bachelors degree of Fine Art from Virginia Commonwealth University with a major in Painting & Printmaking and a minor in Craft & Material Studies. She is the owner and artist of D for Dolls, an online collection of handmade needle felted figures. Outside of being a doll maker, she works with fiber, audio, performance and film within her studio practice. Nastassja’s work is currently on display in a group exhibition at The Colored Girls Museum in Philadelphia, and the Wa Na Wari Art Space in Seattle; as well as upcoming shows and screenings in several spaces throughout Richmond, including Sediment Art Gallery, Afrikana Independent Film Festival, and The Valentine Museum. She has participated in several national and international residencies and exhibitions, including her solo exhibit in Doha, Qatar in 2016, and fellowships at the Vermont Studio Center and MASS MoCA. Gabe Niles has been a stalwart of the Tidewater region’s eclectic music scene for over a decade, combining his diverse influences to produce feel-good music that crosses and transcends genres such as dance, pop, hip-hop, soul, and latin-jazz. I REMEMBER MY FIRST PAINTING LIKE IT WAS YESTERDAY. I named it Amygdala. It’s actually a pretty bad painting, but it’s beautiful to me. That first painting gave me back my joy. The joy I desperately wanted to find when I was forced to turn off mommy mode and go into warrior mode during twenty years in the Navy and three combat tours. The joy I searched so hard for when I was bedridden for two years after battling cancer. So much emotion and pain was poured onto that canvas. I didn’t expect anything from it, but it gave me so much back in return. In my deepest darkest depression, my therapist wrote me a prescription to watch Bob Ross videos. I thought he was full of it. But when I do something, I go all in. It didn’t take long for those happy little trees to win me over, but there was just one problem. I WANTED TO PAINT, BUT I COULDN’T. Savannah Bolin serves as the Hampton Roads Regional Director for Gather; a leader in Professional Coworking in Virginia. Savannah will lead Gather’s expansion into Hampton Roads, beginning with its 30,000 square foot location at 500 East Main Street, Norfolk, Virginia to open in June 2019 with additional locations planned for the region. Savannah was born and raised in Newport News, a graduate of James Madison University and is a current resident of Downtown Norfolk.
