Sinopse
Running is great, so why aren't the podcasts? Bad Boy Running is a podcast for runners who are bored of the dull and dry podcasts currently on offer. Hosted by friends Jody Raynsford and David Hellard, both running journalists, bloggers and lovable idiots, the show features the conversations they'd have in the pub focusing as much on the camaraderie and social side of the sport as well as the technical. Whether you're a 5k, 10k, half marathon, marathon runner or ultramarathon runner, you'll find something in here to be offended by. Bad Boy Guarantee.

Ep 205 - Danny Coyle on the Marathon Majors
06/03/2020 Duração: 01h47minIt's taken 205 episodes but finally meet the Grandfather of The Bad Boy Running Podcast: Danny Coyle. Danny was the editor of Men's Running during the period when Jody and David wrote for the publication and was responsible for bringing them together at Sierra Leone. After leaving Men's Running, Danny went on to become head of digital and social media at Abbott World Marathon Majors, which has within its stable the world's most famous marathons including Boston, London and New York. Jody and David speak to Danny about working with the Marathon Majors. Danny also talks about his own race, London's only 24 hour race, The Spitfire Scramble and how that came about. Enjoy! Ep 204 - Adharanand Finn on writing books on running
01/03/2020 Duração: 01h57minWhy are so many running books so rubbish? That's Jody and David's opening gambit to author and runner Adharanand Finn, who has penned some of the most popular running books, including Running With The Kenyans, The Way Of The Runner and, most recently, The Rise Of The Ultrarunner. The chaps revisit each of the books and explore their impact after now what is a few years since release. Enjoy! Ep 203 - Random Bonus Episode - The Bet Explained
28/02/2020 Duração: 50minJody and David discussed the sub-20 minute 5k/Ironman bet before Christmas... ... but for some reason that episode got lost. Since then, the aftermath has been discussed but for you, the listener, it probably made ZERO sense. Now, we know why. So, here's the episode that should have been released back in December... to shine some light on it. Enjoy! Ep 202 - Nick Butter on running a marathon in every country (Part 2)
21/02/2020 Duração: 01h10minThe is Part 2 of the Nick Butter interview after he became the first runner ever to complete a marathon in all 196 countries in the world. In this episode, Allie and David speak to Nick about how the whole adventure came together and exactly how you bring such an endeavour to reality in terms of logistics and funding (clue: it's tough!) this episode is split into two parts. This shouldn't need explaining but we will because there's always one but... you need to listen to Part 1 first (ep 201) and THEN listen to Part 2 (this episode). Enjoy! Ep 201 - Nick Butter on running a marathon in every country (Part 1)
14/02/2020 Duração: 01h30minDorset runner Nick Butter's passport must be in a right state. Nick recently became the first runner ever to complete a marathon in all 196 countries in the world. In this episode, Allie and David speak to Nick about how the whole adventure came together and exactly how you bring such an endeavour to reality in terms of logistics and funding (clue: it's tough!) As befitting such an adventure, this episode is split into two parts. This shouldn't need explaining but we will because there's always one but... you need to listen to Part 1 first (this episode) and THEN listen to Part 2 (Ep 202 - which isn't out yet but will be when we publish it). Ep 200 - Ger Redmond on going from prisoner to pro-triathlete
07/02/2020 Duração: 01h48minGer Redmond's story is fascinating. From a budding career as a professional footballer, his life was up-ended when tragedy hit his family. His situation led him into a life of crime where he ended up in prison. However, upon his release he discovered the Ironman event and started upon a new path to become a pro-triathlete. The rest, they say, is history. Jody and David speak to Ger about his history and what it took to leave behind the life he had to find a new path. Unfortunately for Jody, Ger also reveals how he managed to go from never having run an Ironman to completing one in just six months! (No pressure there, Jody...) It's an eye-opening episode, that's sure to keep you gripped. Plus all the usual rubbish from Jody and David, before and after. Enjoy! Ep 199 - Rob Koehler, ex-WADA deputy director general on doping
31/01/2020 Duração: 02h18minWow, we’ve got a treat of an episode for you. For many months, Jody and David have time and again brought up the issue of doping as the subject seems to permeate every discussion of athletic achievement. Now, to separate fact from fiction, the chaps speak to former World Anti-Doping Association deputy director general Rob Koehler who offers an inside look at the issues at hand and the state of athletics today. He also explains why he feels ALL Russian athletes should be banned at the Olympics. This really is an eye-opener and worth a listen. Rob also discusses his new role as head of Global Athlete, an athletes advocacy group with the power to stand up to brands and associations where power is entrenched (you won’t believe how bad this is until you hear his examples of this happening!). Plus there’s some gibberish from the guys before the interview gets started. Enjoy! If you enjoyed this episode please SUBSCRIBE to get every episode delivered to you before everyone else. 10/01/2020 Duração: 01h53minWe just can't stop getting Camille Herron back on the podcast... we love her so much. Ahead of her appearance at the BBR Ultrazone at the National Running Show this month, David catches up with Camille to discuss her recent move to Colorado to take her training up a notch, her latest races and challenges and the role of brands and sponsors in ultrarunning. That's not all! Allie co-hosts with David this week and takes the chance to talk about the Namibian Race To The Wreck and they discuss parkrun's decision to close down Facebook groups as well as the National Running Show coming up soon. Ep 193 - Huw Brassington/Matt B Davies
13/12/2019 Duração: 01h58minBut of a strange format for this episode, as it comes in two parts. For the first part, David talks to BBR returnee Huw Brassington about his latest and recent challenges. For the second part, Allie and Jody speak to Obstacle Course Racing Media’s Matt B Davies who broke the story about the #metoo allegations in the OCR community (which the poddie covered a few episodes back involving Spartan 4.0 community) Then David talks to himself for a bit. Forgive the weird format, just enjoy the guests, ok? Enjoy! If you enjoyed this episode please SUBSCRIBE to get every episode delivered to you before everyone else. Join the conversation! Ep 192 - Allie talks the Scottish all-female team adventure and Piece of String race
06/12/2019 Duração: 01h30minIn this episode, Allie talks about her race experience leading an all-female running squad across Scotland from Fort William to Inverness. Ali reveals the thinking behind putting together this group and the opportunity it gave to have a completely different race experience for the women involved. As per Allie, it was an epic event and one of the big things from this chat with David is she reveals the difference between running in a mixed race. Those differences were starkly exposed when Allie talks about her Piece of String race experience. The Piece of String race is more of a mental as well as physical challenge with the competitors unaware of total race distance which is kept secret by Centurion. Eye-opening! Plus all the usual rubbish from Jody and David before and after. :) Enjoy! If you enjoyed this episode please SUBSCRIBE to get every episode delivered to you before everyone else. Ep 191 - Mark Mastalir on hacking the runner's brain and being an ultrarunner agent
22/11/2019 Duração: 02h06minMark Mastalir is interesting is so many ways. He has an impressive background as a runner. In 1992 he was an All-American at Stanford in the 1500 metres, has a 3:58 mile under his belt and competed in the 1992 Olympic Trials. But that's not why he's on the podcast. As Chief Marketing Officer at Halo Neuroscience, he's involved with a company that promises an improvement in performance through its neuroscience technology that connects brain and body. Not only that, Mark is (we reckon) the only dedicated sports agent for ultrarunner athletes, representing some of the biggest ultra talent in the world. David and Jody get the lowdown on both. Enjoy! Ep 190 - The Untold Story Of The 13 Year Old Who Broke The Marathon Record
15/11/2019 Duração: 01h42minWhen you were 13, what did you get up to? PlayStation? Football? Hanging out doing nothing with your pals? In other words, not much. Well... we bet you weren't breaking marathon world records, were you? Prepare yourself for a fascinating one, Do-Badder. In this episode, Jody and David speak to Maureen Wilton, aka "Mighty Moe" whose untold story of how she achieved the incredible feat of breaking the world marathon record when she was just 13 is only now being told. They're joined by Rachel Swaby, author of the book, Mighty Moe who explains exactly what happened and why the record was never made official... despite being officially recorded. This really is one to be heard to be believed. Enjoy! If you enjoyed this episode please SUBSCRIBE to get every episode delivered to you before everyone else. Join the conversation! Ep 189 - Frank Ruona on the San Quentin 1000 Mile Club
08/11/2019 Duração: 01h33minFrank Ruona has been the San Quentin 1000 Mile Club’s volunteer head coach since 2005. The volunteer coaches, under the leadership of USA Track and Field-certified Frank, run the workouts and competitions for inmates in the infamous prison. In this episode Jody and David speak to Frank and discover more about running life behind bars and how the club was formed. As the idea of running as a form of rehabilitation spreads, Frank assists other prisons in creating their own long-distance running clubs. The goal is to provide motivated inmates with the opportunity to experience the physical and mental rewards that running, particularly long-distance running, can provide. Enjoy! Ep 188 - Cynthia Arnold on beating the triple stroller marathon world record
01/11/2019 Duração: 01h56minThis episode is INSANE! In what we reckon is a world first (Bad Boy Guarantee), Jody and David speak to triple stroller marathon world record holder Cynthia Arnold. Cynthia pushed her three children in a stroller (pushchair if you're British) around a whole marathon in an insanely fast time, smashing the previous world record. It raised a lot of questions from the Do-Badders... and Cynthia answers them all. This is an amazing episode you're going to love. Enjoy! Ep 187 - Holly Rush on running influencers, PBs and switching to ultras
25/10/2019 Duração: 02h13minBoy, is Holly Rush an interesting guest in this episode of Bad Boy Running! (And Jody and David didn't make a single joke about nominative determinism!) Starting out in marathons as fun runner, Holly explains her journey from standing as a spectator watching with a beer to going all the way to the European Championships and representing England and Great Britain. She talks about her frustration at trying to beat a PB that just wouldn't fall and her eventual move into ultrarunning. That, in itself, is a fascinating story, but now Holly leads the Asics Frontrunner programme that brings on ordinary runners as ambassadors for the brand. David quizzes Holly on the programme and her thoughts about running social media influencers and the direction of the sport. And then the discussion turns to Marathon Talk for which Holly is a presenter. Enjoy! If you enjoyed this episode please SUBSCRIBE to get every episode delivered to you before everyone else. Ep 186 - George Rendall on rise and fall of Mile 27 runner's coffee shop
18/10/2019 Duração: 01h31minWe know cyclists have a ton of places they can hang out socially (so we can avoid those places...), but what about runners? Well, the runner's cafe Mile 27 aimed to offer a place for runner's to come together to both run, socialise and be a community in central London. And it worked... for a time. In this episode, Jody and David speak to its founder George Rendall about the idea behind the cafe/club, what it took to get working and what happened in the end (spoiler: he has another coffee shop, Lane Eight Coffee in Dulwich) The great thing about this episode is how open and honest George is about everything that went wrong and why it didn't quite work as planned. A real insight into trying to turn your ideas into reality. Enjoy! If you enjoyed this episode please SUBSCRIBE to get every episode delivered to you before everyone else. Join the conversation!
