As believers in Jesus we are not exempt from life’s struggles and suffering, but our relationship with the Risen Messiah gives us certain hope that God’s glory will always surmount and prevail over our present problems. We will begin a study of Peter’s first letter written to Christians who were suffering in the first century through various kinds of trials. We will learn how we can have real hope through life’s real struggles.

As we grow in our relationship with God, we become more and more like our Heavenly Father. Our Father is generous in every way and so we also learn to become generous in all areas of our life. Almighty God wants us as His children to reflect His character in our self-centered world. Lets open our hearts and begin to imitate our Father’s amazing generosity!

The Bible tells us that "God loves a cheerful giver." When we give of our finances to God, it is a concrete act of worship that visibly demonstrates our faith and trust in Him. God is delighted with joyful hearts. Amazingly, He even rewards us with generous blessings and special protection when we give Him the "first fruits" of our finances. Let's learn some invigorating Biblical principles to help us become "cheerful givers."

Have you ever been involved in gathering sweet and ready fruit off a vine or a tree? I have found this to be really fun - especially if I get to eat some of the fruit after picking it! Jesus said gathering people for eternal life is like gathering fruit at harvest time. There is wonderful joy and personal rewards from God when we do this. My prayer is that all of us will gain fresh excitement in this new year and start gathering as many people as possible to eternal life by introducing them to Jesus our Lord.

The last night Jesus was with His disciples before He went to the cross He took the role of a common household servant and washed His disciples’ feet. He was intentionally setting an important example for all who would be His disciples to humbly serve others. This is Jesus’ calling and privilege for each of us today. This morning God wants to challenge us to humble ourselves and learn to serve others in this New Year. Are you willing?

How are you approaching 2012? What do you expect to happen in this new year? As followers of Jesus we have the assurance that God is in complete control. We have been learning about Jesus’ mission as the Messiah from Isaiah 61:1-3. He is committed to restoring our lives, freeing us from sin, replacing our failures with His beauty, and establishing us as “oaks of righteousness” for His glory. Take courage! The favor, love, and power of Jesus, the Anointed One, will cover you every day in 2012.

Jesus the Messiah was born to bring together a new people from all nations. Jesus is God’s gift to all people everywhere. He wants to liberate humanity and restore us to the privileged position originally held as the crown of His creation. Today you can experience God’s freedom, favor, and deliverance from judgment if you turn from your sinful independence and trust in Jesus the Messiah. Will you do that today?

On the night Jesus was born the angel said to the shepherds, “I bring you good news of great joy that will be for all the people.” (Luke 2:10) Today we will learn how Jesus as the Anointed One, the Messiah, restores, heals, liberates, comforts, and imparts great joy to all people who let Him touch their life.

When God restores us into relationship with Himself He gives us the privilege of being partners in His kingdom work. He has assignments and projects for us to complete. He gives us tools to do the work and He empowers us with His grace to be successful. He also will evaluate the quality of our work, because He has entrusted us with important responsibility. Let’s learn today how we can be excellent co-laborers with God.

Almighty God has blessed us in uncountable ways. We are instructed in the Holy Scriptures that we are to continually give thanks to Him – not just one day a year! Today we will learn about the purpose and power of thanksgiving so that praising and thanking our God will become a joyous lifestyle.

God conditions the very life and prosperity of His cause on prayer.” E.M. Bounds as quoted in Intercessory Prayer, page 23.

When we pray we invite God’s presence, power, and authority into our lives and circumstances. Through prayer we bring the rule and abundant life of heaven to earth to meet various needs and problems. Prayer unlocks the provisions of heaven and brings them to earth. Let’s learn how to pray more effectively so God’s will can be done on earth just as it is in heaven.

Prayer at its core is communicating with our Father in heaven who loves us dearly. We need to depend upon Him as little children and talk to Him about all our needs, all our concerns and questions, and all our struggles. He will respond and help us if we simply ask, seek, and knock. Are you communicating with your heavenly Father continually in prayer?

What do you do when you have a crisis? Flip out? Melt down? Frantically try to fix it? Worry or get angry? Life is full of both small & large crises that we do not anticipate. God’s Word is clear on what we are to do when crises interrupt our lives – PRAY. Join us Sunday morning as we learn some principles on how to pray when we face crises & invite God’s power, deliverance, & glory to be revealed in them.
