Burning the Bridge with My Previous Employer: A Lesson Learned

Erik was in a situation where he disagreed with how the last company he worked for was operating. Because of this, Erik and a co-worker made a decision that ended up burning the bridge with his previous employer. At the time, Erik felt that he was justified in doing this because of his disagreements with how the company was handling certain situations. Today, Erik regrets doing this, and is confident if he were to go back to the same situation, he would handle it differently. The key here is to understand that no matter the reason you may want to leave a company, you should always try to leave on as good of terms as possible. Turning Negativity into a Positive Learning Experience
23/05/2019 Duração: 05minAfter a custom software development conference Erik spoke at a good while back, he heard an attendee talking negatively about him afterwards. This was due to the fact that Erik used to not utilize formal contracts for prospects back in the day, and instead just sent proposals to be signed. Instead of getting angry or annoyed at what he overheard, Erik decided to go up to this individual in order to see what he could learn. Erik asked about the benefits of using contracts and what this individual recommended. Because of this, Erik was able to understand how contracts could be beneficial when signing new clients, and developed his own contracts for prospects. That prospect may love your offerings and push for the deal, but that doesn’t always mean they are going to be a good fit. It is essential to step back and reflect on these first interaction meetings after they take place.
