The Power of the Rain: Nature’s Emotional Intelligence
04/10/2019 Duração: 11minIn this podcast we will be listening to the rain in Mauritius. We will be learning how to listen to the rain in our inner and outer lives. We will discuss the metaphor of how the rain is similar to pain or emotions that we experience that we may not want. We will also learn how to observe and accept, rather than fight and reject when the inner or outer rain shows up in our lives. It’s an approach to emotional intelligence, where we relate to our emotions by knowing what we can name, we can tame.

Reading for Fun in Class
02/10/2019 Duração: 18minIn this class students were working on reading topics of interest to them. Rather than everyone being given the same reading text, they all received a different text, either fiction or nonfiction genres. And they were encouraged to first identify certain parts of speech such as present continuous, past and future tense, adjectives and subject and verb agreement. And the higher level task was to retell what they had read as well as explain why it was personally relevant to them with connections they may have to text.they agree to disagree didn’t agree with what they read about. The Power of Emotions
23/09/2019 Duração: 24minUnderstanding our emotions impacts our relationships both personally professionally. It helps us become more emotionally intelligent. In schools we don’t teach emotional intelligence, we often just teach academic intelligence most of the time. Students need to learn how to not just clean their bodies in their teeth but their mind and their emotions as well. Students and teachers need more opportunities to strengthen their EQ not just their ability to pass exams. If students have challenges that are impacting them beyond the exam paper, they need to work through that in order to be able to better memorize and learn.
