  • S4 E3-4 and 20 Strings!

    30/07/2020 Duração: 34min

I invited 4 and 20 strings to give a house concert WAY before COVID and all this stuff broke out. Because I was testing live-streaming (and now have great proficiency with it, but then was not so great), I missed all of the recorded concert and just have the end of the last piece, a passacaglia section of the Biber violin sonata No. 3, with Alexandra Calabro playing the vioin, Kevin Lubin the viola da gamba (he's also a talented harpsichordist), and Ryan Closs on Theorbo. I started with the interview I did with them afterwards and then go into the music. Here is their bio! No point in putting in the program as you only hear the VERY last part of it:4&20 Strings, Long Island's premier Baroque ensemble, was formed in 2019. The trio consists of violinist Alexandra Calabro, theorbist Ryan Closs, and harpsichordist/viola da gamba player Kevin Lubin. Garnering attention by programing concerts in both traditional and unique spaces, the overarching goal of 4&20 Strings is to bring early music to Long Island.

  • S4 E2-FMP Naomi Florin Concert January 31st, 2020

    04/07/2020 Duração: 44min

Hey! So I dropped the ball on two concerts that happened a week within each other. This was the first one. It was a piano and violin concert with yours truly and Naomi Florin, a talented NYC-based violinist. It was a program featuring George N. Gianopoulos' "City Vignettes", Op. 29d, Cesar Franck's Violin Sonata, and the theme to Schindler's List by John Williams. If you enjoy the works of Gianopoulos, here is his website, showcasing his other works: https://www.georgengianopoulos.com/. Naomi Florin's other work can be found on her Youtube page: https://www.youtube.com/channel/UC5Mhl9mBjmoOl0QETG4nWpw/ as well as on Facebook, through her dedicated artist page @naomiflorinmusic.Thank you for listening! • S4 E1-FMP (Making up for October 2019) Masterchorale November Concert (2019): A Procession Winding Around Me

    30/03/2020 Duração: 01h07min

Hey guys! How's it going? Well? Don't be silly, it's terrible out there. COVID and such. Anywhoozle, for a guy like me, with more vanity than common sense and wisdom, this is a California gold rush for podcasters, as the assumption is that there will be increased interest in things designed for people taking long solitary walks or listening to things in their office. This is a concert from November 2019. For various reasons, putting this up before was not an option. Thankfully, I am able to do so now, and another one of the things to be grateful for, despite the Unemployment Office being too busy to give anyone money and EMT workers likely all to be harmed from repeated exposure to Corona-Virus, is that this is a time for sedentary bits of media, lovingly recorded for posterity. Here is a link to Masterchorale's website: https://www.nycmasterchorale.org/The choir was ably conducted by Dusty Francis, as well as expertly accompanied by guitarist Giacomo Baldelli.Support the show (https://www.patreon.com/Famousmus

  • S3 E12-FMP-Gabrielle Toscano (Violist), Kayla Faccilongo and Ian Joyal from December 2019 Holiday Party

    25/02/2020 Duração: 22min

I got invited to play piano for the Brahms "Geistliches Weigenlied" (Spiritual lullabies) because the mezzo, Kayla Faccilongo, was co-workers with a gentleman in the Hudson Valley who valued great classical music and had a cousin, Gabrielle Toscano, who was a professional violist, and Brahms has this piece for viola, mezzo, and piano, so bam. What followed was our initial and only read through of both movements of the Brahms, then Lo, How a Rose, the Christmas carol, then Ian Joyal lending his talents (Kayla's fiancé, who is a bass-baritone) in addition to Kayla singing the soprano, also sight-reading to Gesu Bambino by Pietro Yon, then closing it all out with a rousing chorus of "Silent Night".Thanks for listening, everybody! I'm gonna figure this whole podcast thingie out.Support the show (https://www.patreon.com/Famousmusicianspodcast)

Jen Groves, Soprano, Joseph Martin, pianist.Christopher Prestia, music director of the Lutheran Church of the Good Shepherd and instrumental patron of the arts whose timeless zeal for promoting art and artists gave us this unique opportunity to do a concert in such a wonderful space (and even for Jen and I to work together, as we are requisitely expensive enough that we wouldn't have been able to afford hiring ourselves, really)Support the show (https://www.patreon.com/Famousmusicianspodcast)

  • S3 E3-Famous Musician's Podcast March 2019: Jennifer Allenby

    22/03/2019 Duração: 30min

I sat down with Jennifer Allenby to discuss life and music. There were a few moments where it seemed that I might have asked an unnecessarily didactic question, and the potential for it seeming didactic increased due to it being a situation where I was asking someone in school very schoolish questions, having, myself, been out of school for quite a while. We concluded with a performance of 3 Nadia Boulanger songs: "Elegie", "Extase", and "La Mer".These will be featured on a senior recital March 29th, which is a friday, at 7pm, in Lefrak Concert Hall, at Queens College (65-30 Kissena Blvd, Queens, NY, 11367) accompanied by Keith Chambers, vocal coach and conductor. Free admission! Please attend.Support the show (https://www.patreon.com/Famousmusicianspodcast)
