Hey, I listened to the Cult Podcast's coverage of the events of the past week and felt compelled to get on my soapbox, with my limited understanding of politics and statistics, and put my 2 cents forward. I apologize to any claims I may have made because I don't have the information to properly back it up. We live in a unique time where the abundance of news sources, coupled with an abundance of different investor's interests, make it so one event can seem like the Hindenburg disaster, whereas in a different paper, someone will make it out to be "some of the more panderings of the lamestream media" and many very good, honest, and virtuous people unfortunately place a lot of trust in news sources I'm almost certain are pandering lies, but I can't probably cite or vouch for, because I'm just too lazy and put a lot of my energy into music, and feel it would be too much work to be able to find exactly how and why a source is incorrect. An idea popped into my head the other day, upon reading an email by a composer, Brian Field. He had done a version of "In The Bleak Midwinter" but called it by Christina Rossetti's actual poem name, "A Christmas Carol" and it was quite nice, but the divisis and various other aspects of the piece, also considering the rushed time frame made it difficult to spring upon my volunteer choir at my Lutheran church job with enough time. SO----voila! I have a podcast which is just recorded performances, and great music for the sake of great music, so why don't I do it on that? So I did. Additionally I figured, if I was going out of my way to do this recently composed piece and it was difficult, why don't I juxtapose this with other ridiculously hard Christmas pieces and recently written works? I'm trying to figure out, when I don't have a guest to interview, a great way to challenge myself with utilizing all my talents and also keeping things family friendly. Here, I have done "In Dulci Jubilo" from Bach's Orgelbuchlein, playing the chorale, and then the first prelude based on it, then lecturing about it and what I understand and appreciate about it as a performer, and then doing a quick rap based on it as well. Hey! So I wanted to start making this more about performance. Get back to its roots. So here is an excerpt from a concert I did last night at 8pm! Dr. Oliver is the Associate Director of Choral Activities at MSM (Manhattan School of Music) and the artistic director and conductor of Ensemble NYC, a newly organized choral ensemble dedicated to bringing hope to the people of New York City by offering choral concerts that are a place of respite and encouragement. They're fully pro, and I define that as every member of this group has great relative or perfect pitch, and, bereft of piano accompaniment or even a conductor, could sight read, from 85-100% accuracy, most, if not all choral music ever composed.
