  • WGBH Early Edition - Thursday, April 23rd, 2020

    23/04/2020 Duração: 11min

Good Thursday morning from WGBH Radio’s Morning Edition team. We’re down a man this AM as our North Shore bureau is closed for the week, but the rest of the crew is zooming in for today’s Early Edition… sorry if you missed us on Facebook, we’ll try and work out those kinks for tomorrow. Joe updates us on the latest Covid-19 data and today’s big stimulus vote in the legislature down in DC. The recovery from this pandemic must focus on our vulnerable senior citizens, but poor President Trump is feeling very left out of that love and concern. At least the weather hasn’t been too good… hard to stay inside and secure when its beautiful out. Hey, at least we’ve got that going for us. Thanks for joining us this morning on WGBH.

  • WGBH Early Edition - Wednesday, April 22nd, 2020

    22/04/2020 Duração: 13min

Good Wednesday morning from WGBH and our homebound Morning Edition team. Joe Mathieu and the crew are up early, with a massive craving for pizza… particularly from one spot in Roslindale. Mayor Walsh joined us on Facebook live yesterday and we were his first stop after Governor Baker announced that schools will remain closed for the rest of the academic year. However it is the buildings themselves that are shut down, online learning will continue for the duration. Are kids excited by the news? Consensus seems to be that being stuck at home has dulled the shine on that announcement for our young ones. Gronk is headed to Tampa, which certainly appears to be a match made in heaven. Thanks for waking up with Morning Edition and WGBH radio.

  • WGBH Early Edition - Tuesday, April 21st, 2020

    21/04/2020 Duração: 13min

Good Tuesday Morning from Joe Mathieu and the WGBH Morning Edition team. Another work from home day, another Early Edition live on a Zoom conference… join us every day on Facebook to put faces to the voices and see what you’ve been missing. Joe recaps the monumental drop in oil prices, and offers a correction on behalf of the Joe Kennedy campaign, who were apparently up bright and early on a 4/20 morn. Plus Tom Brady is gone from Boston, but he’s still making news, even if it is news from Tampa Bay. The weather won’t be great the next few days so get your Netflix cue ready and hunker down for it. Stay safe out there, and thanks for waking up with WGBH Radio.

  • WGBH Early Edition - Monday, April 20th, 2020

    20/04/2020 Duração: 13min

Good Marathon Monday Morning from WGBH Radio, Joe Mathieu and the Morning Edition team. It’s Marathon Monday, and even though the event has been cancelled for a few weeks, there are some runners who still intend to run the course… although local police may have other ideas for those people. It’s also Patriots Day, which is a holiday only here and in Wisconsin. And of course it’s April 20th, aka “420” the unofficial marijuana holiday for weed consumers everywhere. Joe feels clips from the President’s conference yesterday may not be the best way to start your week, so we’ll leave you with some happy thoughts and positive energy… hang in there everybody, and thanks for joining us on WGBH.

  • WGBH Early Edition - Friday, April 17th, 2020

    17/04/2020 Duração: 13min

It’s Friday again, thanks for joining Joe Mathieu and the WGBH Morning Edition team, live from our homes once again with no end in sight here in Massachusetts. Joe has shed the sport coat in favor of a stuck-at-home fashion trend he’s calling “Covid Casual”. President Trump has created shiny new catchphrases and graphics to announce the re-opening of America, without any clear guidelines on testing or tracing the virus. Weekend plans (or lack thereof) are discussed, as Karen wants to try a socially distanced social event with a friend. And online dating is changing in the days of self-quarantine… Brendan and Shelby offer their thoughts on it. Stay safe and enjoy your weekend.

  • WGBH Early Edition - Thursday, April 16th, 2020

    16/04/2020 Duração: 13min

Good Thursday morning… we used to call it “Little Friday” around here when all the days didn’t blend together like they seem to now. Joe Mathieu and our Morning Edition team are ready to go on a morning we may actually see some snow… you can blame Karen for that, who tempted fate and put her shovels into storage last week. We discuss the re-opening of America, and how no one appears to be on the same page, including the Trump campaign which co-sponsored the protests in Michigan yesterday. Plus quarantine has helped the world highlight and breathe life into forgotten recipes… this morning Karen finds out what the instant coffee craze is all about live on Early Edition. Stay home, stay safe, and thanks for tuning in to WGBH.

  • WGBH Early Edition - Wednesday, April 15th, 2020

    15/04/2020 Duração: 13min

Good Wednesday morning from WGBH Radio, Joe Mathieu and our entire Morning Edition crew. Another week sheltering in place is halfway over… that means the weekend will soon arrive, just in time for us to get ready for another week in our bunkers. Brendan and Karen disagree on preferable quarantine weather… Brendan feels rain, cold and clouds suit this pandemic mood, while Karen wants the warm weather and sun to arrive so the kids can get (and stay) outdoors. It’s ‘One Boston’ day but the normal ceremonies will be greatly reduced. Thanks again for waking up with us even though you may not have to, and thanks for continuing to turn to WGBH News.

  • WGBH Early Edition - Tuesday, April 14th, 2020

    14/04/2020 Duração: 13min

Good Tuesday Morning from Joe Mathieu and the entire WGBH Morning Edition team. Another day hunkered down at home, and one good thing about it all is that the listening and viewership on Facebook for ‘the best 10 minutes in radio’ is higher than it’s ever been. Thanks for waking up with us early, consuming us on the podcast, or watching us on Facebook all day long - we’re glad we can keep you company. As one viewer suggested to us… today Facebook, tomorrow Channel 2? We’ll update you on the latest, including a marathon meltdown during the daily press briefing at the White House. Thanks for tuning in to Early Edition, no matter how or when you consume us.

  • WGBH Early Edition - Monday, April 13th, 2020

    13/04/2020 Duração: 13min

Good Monday morning from Joe Mathieu and the WGBH Morning Edition team. Another week of social distancing is upon us, and that means another Early Edition live from our homes on a Zoom video chat. Joe has dressed up for work this morning, including a collared shirt, a first in this broadcast-from-home era. We discuss the latest numbers, the dreaded arrival of the surge, and how our Easter Sundays went. Karen’s kids were particularly worried about the health of a certain Bunny, and whether his health may affect them. The weekend is over and another week of staying home is here… hang in there everybody, together we’re going to get through this.

  • WGBH Early Edition - Friday, April 10th, 2020

    10/04/2020 Duração: 13min

Good Friday morning from Joe Mathieu and our WGBH Morning Edition crew. Buckle in, today mark’s the first day of the predicted ‘surge’ of covid-19 virus cases in the Bay State, and based on yesterday’s latest numbers, that certainly looks like it may be coming to pass. It’s Easter weekend, but many of us will be trying to find new ways to celebrate and see our families from a distance. One way sidewalks are becoming a reality around Boston and the North Shore, and Salem, MA residents will now have to wear a mask any time they step foot out of their homes. It’s the weekend even though it doesn’t feel like it, get outside safely in the nice weather, and thanks for joining us on WGBH Radio.

  • WGBH Early Edition - Thursday, April 9th, 2020

    09/04/2020 Duração: 12min

Good Thursday morning from Joe Mathieu and the WGBH Early Edition team. We believe this is day 14 of work-from-home Morning Edition, but we urge you not to quote us on that, who can really say for sure as the days continue to run together. We’ll update you on the latest numbers and the continued disconnect between what the President says and what State Governors are experiencing. The spring season ends before it ever began for the Boston Pops, and this morning we’ll bring you our first ever interview via Zoom. Stay home and stay safe, we’ll get through this together. Thanks for listening to WGBH.

  • WGBH Early Edition - Wednesday, April 8th, 2020

    08/04/2020 Duração: 13min

Good Wednesday (is it Wednesday?) morning from Joe Mathieu and the WGBH Morning Edition team. We’re all still sheltering in place and working from home, although we’re giving Brendan the chance to rest up, sleep in and come back fresh. As the surge begins we give you the latest numbers and updates, as well as news on some new restrictions coming to Massachusetts supermarkets after an employee of Market Basket passed away from Covid-19. All of this continues to reinforce what we already know… protect yourselves, maintain personal space of at least 6 feet and practice good judgement. Thanks for doing what you can, and thanks for listening to WGBH radio.

  • WGBH Early Edition - Tuesday, April 7th, 2020

    07/04/2020 Duração: 13min

Good Tuesday Morning from Joe Mathieu and the WGBH Morning Edition team. Early Edition is live once again from our various bedrooms, home offices and kitchens via the magic of Zoom conferencing. Nothing on these video chats is private it seems, so we won’t get any false sense of security. We all had some quality time outdoors yesterday, but the sudden influx of vitamin D made some of us want to nap. Boston seems emboldened by the good weather and many headed outdoors yesterday, mostly with masks. And total chaos at the White House press conference last night, as President Trump went further off the rails than he normally does. Stay home and stay safe… it’s the only way we’ll make it. Thanks for joining us on WGBH Radio.

  • WGBH Early Edition - Monday, April 6th, 2020

    06/04/2020 Duração: 14min

Good Monday morning from Joe Mathieu and the WGBH Morning Edition team. Another week sheltering in place is upon us, and given that we’ve been told that the next few weeks may be the worst we face, social distancing is more important now than ever. Most cities and towns are recommending we wear masks while outside our homes… of course if you don’t own a mask that might be hard to actually comply with. We’ll give you the latest numbers update, the President’s insistence on pushing an unproven drug, and what to expect in the coming week. Thanks for continuing to wake up with us, even though we know you may not have to wake up for work. And thanks for tuning in to WGBH Radio.

  • WGBH Early Edition - Friday, April 3rd, 2020

    03/04/2020 Duração: 12min

Good Friday morning from Joe Mathieu and the WGBH Morning Edition team. Another week has gone by with our new normal, and at least you can stay home and NOT work for a few days. We give you the latest daily numbers and updates from the President. Tired of being outbid for supplies, Governor Charlie Baker took things into his own hands with the Patriots help, and secured and executed a deal to bring in over 1.3 million N95 masks from China, a million of which will go to Bay State doctors and nurses in desperate need of PPE. Sorry if you missed us on Facebook, we’ll get that sorted out for Monday. Stay home and stay safe out there, and thanks for tuning in to WGBH.

  • WGBH Early Edition - Thursday, April 2nd, 2020

    02/04/2020 Duração: 12min

Good Thursday morning from Joe Mathieu and the WGBH Morning Edition team. Another day sheltering at home, another Zoom conference from the Early Edition team. We’re used to calling Thursday “Little Friday”, but when you’re stuck at home for the betterment of society all the days just seem to blend together. We’ll update you on the latest numbers and the latest press conference from the President’s team… but as Brendan points out these daily briefings are increasingly feeling like campaign rallies. Our favorite coach tries to motivate us to stay home, but doesn’t seem too enthusiastic about it. Stay safe and please stay home… we’re going to get through this.

  • WGBH Early Edition - Wednesday, April 1st, 2020

    01/04/2020 Duração: 12min

Good Wednesday morning from Joe Mathieu and the WGBH Morning Edition Zoom team. Live from home like the rest of you and we’re starting to forget which day it actually is… that’s normal, right? We’re also starting to run out of things to keep us occupied and the weather this week doesn’t look great for telling the kids to get outside. We’ll give you the latest on the national emergency and the Trump marathon press conference. Also WGBH went national last night, courtesy of a clue read on Jeopardy… double Jeopardy to be exact, and the $2000 clue to boot. Stay home everybody, we’re going to get through this but only if you do your part. Thanks once again for tuning in to WGBH.

  • WGBH Early Edition - Tuesday, March 31st, 2020

    31/03/2020 Duração: 12min

Good Tuesday Morning from WGBH News and the Morning Edition team. It’s Tuesday but it feels like any other day during the quarantining of America. Our crew is broadcasting from home via Zoom again and we catch you up on the latest news including a White House press conference that once again turned into a pep rally… and now an infomercial? The BPL wants to challenge kids to build their own pillow forts from home, but little do they know kids have already exhausted that option in the past two weeks. Stay home and stay safe… also stay tuned to WGBH to stay informed. Thanks for tuning in.

  • WGBH Early Edition - Monday, March 30th, 2020

    30/03/2020 Duração: 13min

Good Monday morning from Joe Mathieu and the WGBH Morning Edition team. We begin week two of working from home - four out of five members of the Morning Edition are working from home again this week and for the foreseeable future. The Covid-19 pandemic continues to change all of our lives and we’re here to keep you company from the comfort of our own homes. Hunker down as this week is sure to be a challenge with kids still home and the weather not looking great. Joe and the team update us on the weekend happenings from home and what we all did to stay occupied. Stay home and stay safe, and thanks for listening to WGBH Radio.

  • WGBH Early Edition - Friday, March 27th, 2020

    27/03/2020 Duração: 12min

Good Friday morning from Joe Mathieu and the WGBH Morning Edition team. Most of our crew is still quarantined and working from home, so once again Early Edition is brought to you via the magic of a Zoom conference. WGBH and Zoom… a match made since the 1970’s. We have your morning update on the latest with the Covid-19 virus and Governor Charlie Baker’s frustration with President Trump and the Federal Government’s help (or lack thereof). If this goes on much longer Karen may be showing up in pajamas and Joe in his bathrobe. Even though the world is upside down right now it’s going to be nice out today so get outside for a nice (safe) social distance walk, and thanks again for continuing to tune in to WGBH.
